TBD on Ning

We should have expected that, I guess.

Here it is, a library of e-readers and laptops but no books, when you are in the library you can borrow anything in it.

One side note, the name BiblioTech is a pun, the word bibliothèque means library in French ( originally from Ancient Greek βιβλιοθήκη (bibliothēkē, book-room)

I can remember when you couldn't have anything to eat or drink in the library. Our new state of the art library has a nice snack bar and then little cubby hole rooms where you can go and read and eat and drink.

It'll work just fine 'till the oil runs out.  Then...  Because no oil = no electricity; no electricity = no electronic/digital gadgets.  Solar/wind power can only provide a limited amount of electricity; hopefully the oil running out won't happen in my lifetime, but ya never know.

Lovely graphic, Lynn!  Thanks for sharing!

Yes, rapa.  As well as the thought that it extends to us. A library without books, though?  An oxymoron to be sure.

Since I've only recently got a computer & can download pdf books - & since I live where I have no room to keep books, I've been a true bookworm using the public libraries!  I really enjoy finding  a new author & their books, + sometimes rereading old favorites.

Barb, since Overdrive is the "standard" for most libraries, keep us posted on this. Does this mean you can no longer check out ebooks till they make the switch? Bummer........ Our little branch has just formed a consortium with 2 other local branches to offer ebooks via Overdrive. Our selection isn't huge yet, but it's growning!

The only ebooks we can ck out go 2 cell phones & not my computer, so I can't use them :(

Yes, Barb, please do keep us posted if it's not too much trouble; my library also uses the Overdrive system for e-book checkout, so I'm curious to see if they change over also.

I've only checked out a couple of e-books from the library... most of the ones I wanted had long lines waiting for them and when your turn comes you have to take it quickly and read it fast...  most of the ones that were available were kids books.

A hard book might take awhile to get but if you don't finish it in time you can keep if a while longer and pay a small fine... not so with ebooks...  BOOM! they are gone...

Our libraries here have the ability to get books from all over the US of A.  I've had books from Kansas, Idaho, Universities everywhere, etc.  My girl friend up in Buena Vista, is a retired librarian & she taught me how 2 take the best advantage of our library services.
