...maybe an extension from the old computer group, however...

...I run ms security essentials, superantispyware and malwarebytes on a vista os machine hooked up to wireless...

...is this sufficient?...is it really necessary to spend bucks for off-the-shelf anti-virus/malware protection?...

...all above were free download versions...

you don't need to spend bucks

if you are happy with what you have...just be sure you have 1 antivirus...1 antispyware and 1 firewall...seems like if it is working for you then you have it covered...in fact malwarebytes and superantispyware together might be overcovered but hey if it is working ....

radar,

yup, what Al said.  One thing to remember about malwarebytes free edition is that it's passive.  It's up to you to run it, and the usual time that many people run something like it is after they encounter a problem.  God knows, I've done that! The for-pay version, though, will actively protect you.  Malwarebytes, I believe, also has a "pay one time and the license is forever" which is really nice because it's not a yearly subscription.

...I'm near religious, if not darned right paranoid, about manually running updates and full scans at least twice a week...

...sometimes though, my 'puter's quirks make me think that those programs have been hacked...

...thanks pete, prob A...guess I'll keep my eyes open for a good anti-gremlin program...LOL...
