TBD on Ning

I keep reading in different discussion groups that AAA offers ANYONE, ANYWHERE a safe ride home, but that is NOT true.  For anyone who's interested....

Only SOME AAA Clubs Offer Safe Driving Alternatives  - about 15 or 16 are offering the Tipsy Tow program:

I'm just walking down the street, can ride my horse home if I have to.

These photos should really wake people up that look at them.  I went through the list of places and there is nothing near where I live, which is appalling when there are six bars within walking distance of my apartment and most access them by car.  I'm planning on spending new years like I have for years.  I'll be sitting home watching the festivities on TV from home.  Hopefully, I'll still be awake when the ball drops in Times Square. :)  I really lead an exciting life.

We have a lawyer here in town who will pay the cab fare home (not to go from bar to bar) for anyone and the light rail and the bus is free til 6 am new years.

Found the one about men vs women interesting in one regard, essentially saying men have more water in their bodies to dilute the alcohol. I notice when my weight is down I have to really watch my intake; I feel it more.

Here's a list I read someplace awhile back about hangovers...
HANGOVER HELPERS

1. Moderation is the best way to avoid hangovers - make sure to pace yourself.
2. Eat food if you have more than a drink or two.
3. Avoid dehydration (and cut down on alcohol intake) by drinking as much water as possible while you're drinking alcohol.
4. Take a B-complex vitamin supplement plus extra thiamine (100 mg) to counter the B-vitamin depletion caused by alcohol.
5. Choose beverages that are "cleaner." Some distilled beverages are rich in types of alcohol called congeners - toxic impurities that can greatly add to your woes. Bourbon, rum and cognac are particularly dirty, while vodka, which is alcohol and water with just trace amounts of impurities, is the cleanest.

There have been times in my life where I was lucky I got home without killing myself or someone else. I have really changed in that regard. I admit I still drink and drive, but I watch it. Two beers or three if I have a meal as well if driving.

MQM, you are lucky.  The cops will be very busy tonight.  All they have to do is park in the bar parking lots.  Like fish in a barrel and they'll all wonder how the cop that observed them stumbling to their cars knew they were drunk.  The parking lot to my apartment backs up to the bars parking lot.  It will be hopping tonight.  I have learned not to look out the window late at night.  I'm really past wanted to see the drunks watering the trees and then climbing into their cars and leave.  One fool even had his headlights on one night.  No more wondering why the headlights are shining in my windows.  :)

Tipsy Tow is offered here in Phoenix, I heard it mentioned on the news this morning.  Maricopa County, where I live, has some of the toughest drunk driving laws in the country.  Sheriff Joe  means business!
