TBD

TBD on Ning

I am single, not by choice but because I lost my wife to cancer 4 years ago. One of the things we did "for us" was to buy a condo in our home state of Wisconsin and we'd go there as our little home-away-from-home. Sometimes we'd go there and not even tell anyone we were there so we could be alone. Now that she's gone, I use the condo as my little hideaway! In fact, I just got back from hiding out for two weeks. Just to be honest here, I don't just hide out, but I do spend a lot of time just hanging around alone (with the dog, of course!) and enjoying my "me time!"

Anyone else do this, or am I weird? LOL

I believe that people who enjoy alone time are pretty happy healthy people, content to be with themselves.  It depends on the motive for me of being alone, if it is to escape people and the world for too long, then I know I have some work to do on me.  My hideaway is at my friends house, a half an hour from me.  Or each and every year, the oregon coast. I adore the ocean and when I retire, will probably head that way.

I don't have a formal hideaway, but I DO have an informal one in my garage!  It's the fitness room that my remodeling friend, Ben, made for me when he redid my whole garage.  He was tired of seeing all of my fitness equipment spread throughout my townhome!  He finally finished the outside of it last week, and hung a lot of my favorite running pics and articles and one of my favorite posters inside.  I much prefer working out in my fitness room rather than taking the time to go to a club.  I have a large TV in there and watch shows that I've DVR's while I'm working out.

Here are a few photos of the outside and inside...

Wow, really nice. Great friend you got there.

Thanks mqm!  He IS a good friend, but I DO pay him for his work.  He's like a stepson - he calls me "Mom!"  We sound like an old married couple when we shop at Lowe's - and he usually wins the "discussions" since he's a good interior decorator (and I'm not!!).

Thanks Steve - it really IS fantastic!  Then it was Ben's idea to reframe some of my favorite running photos and the newspaper article and hang them in my fitness room - Brings back lots of good memories!

And that room does not get dusty, either!  Since Ben's "orders" were that no one is allowed to wear street shoes in MY room, I have a pair of running shoes in there that I put on when I take off my other shoes outside the door.  When Ben has been working on the fitness room, neighbors that walk by down the alley always stop by to see the latest, and they can't go in there either if they don't take their shoes off.  Several of the men have told Ben not to let their wives see the fitness room or they might want one, too!!

fantastic

you

& the great room

Want!  Only I'd probably never leave a room like that.  Oh, my...

Wish I had a real hideway, but my computer room works real well  and when I don't want to talk to anyone I just  don't answer the phone or the door.I think being able to be alone is a good thing, not a weird thing. I know people who can't stand not to have some one around all the time.
