Would you leave the country to retire? If so, where?
Would you work part time in another job after you retire?
Do you worry about your care giving in the future? especially since the Baby Boomers outnumbers subsequent generations.
According to current data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau, the population 65 years and over will increase from 35 million in 2000 to 40 million in 2010 (a 15% increase) and then to 55 million in 2020 (a 36% increase for that decade). By 2030, there will be about 72.1 million older persons in the U.S., almost twice their number in 2007 and roughly 20 percent of the U.S. population.

#1. No, I've checked out some of the other countries and decided that for various reasons, primarily language aptitude, I will be better off in the states.
#2. I retired from the military in Nov. 1979. Went baqck to college for a year and then worked for a Defense Contractor for 18 years. Retired again in 97. Worked numerious part time jobs since. Currently working 20 hrs a week for a RV site with full utilities and a future free night for every 10 hrs worked.
#3 Of course I worry about medical care in the future. I have great coverage now, but it is all funded by the government and as the report above indicates, it will change in the future. It seems pretty clear to me that if the Republicans can keep convincing the Sheeple to support their "All or Nothing" ideas instead of working out some type of compromise, the Us will soon be a very deadly place in which to age.
However, I refuse to allow that to dictate how I live for the next 10 or 20 years.
ROBBIE, that's great attitude to take. I refuse to allow that to dictate how I live for the next 10 or 20 years.
I wish I could have the freedom to think that way.
My mom is one of the lucky ones. She has a great retirement income and good health care and spends her time between here and in the Philippines. She's happier there, but she doesn't want to leave her grand kids. My kids and my brother's kids.
I am not suggesting you move to FL, but here is an interesting way to calculate comparable cost of living in the USA. I wish they had an index for every major retirement worthy town.
Key West (Conch Republic) reminds me of the Philippines in some ways with the amenities of course.

I think Guam would be a good choice for you. That way your wife could visit her homeland often and you could be in US territory and still enjoy the weather and Pacific lifestyle. I'd just worry about cabin fever since Guam is a much smaller island than the Philippine and the beaches aren't as beautiful.
With that number of people I hope there will not be a war or police action noone left to go . I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE my last divorce wiped me out completely then had 8 or 9 strokes had no choice but ssi perminate disability lost sight can't drive the woman I WAS SLEEPING WITH AT THE TIME STUCK AROUND FOR SOME REASON so this is where i stay I think in the good old usa might move to a different area of country maybe sw. missouri. better fishing there .but she doesn't want to move I go by myself..
