you are what you is
and that is all that it is
you have what you have
tears begin to fall
I'm sitting here all alone
no love of my own
friends eternally
it's a long road behind me
and I miss you now
I just listened to a recording of My Beloved singing this in his office...Al would've clapped along.
i can turn skies blue
make a ship sail on dry land
or fly like a bird
with all my powers
you're the key to happiness
can't get next to you....
Great version, K.
And so true for most of us--that terrible fear of being misunderstood...
Donny Hathaway was such a talent. So soulful.
ain't it wonderful...
still loving one another
we can remain friends
black is the color
of my true love's hair...his face
soft and wondrous fair
the purist eyes and
the strongest hands...I love the
ground on where he stands
i love my lover
and well he knows...i love the
ground on where he goes
and still i hope that
the time will come when he and
i will be as one...
When I was a teenager, my dad, who was a Naval officer and seldom home, loved this song. Once he swept me up into his arms and danced with me as we sang it together, seeming to know that this was our shared destiny. I loved him so very much.
Yes, Daddy, now I'm old and beginning to wonder...it that all there is?
is that all there is?
let's dance and break out the booze
if that's all there is...
once on a high hill
your love touched my silent heart
and taught it to sing
i'll never forget
how two hearts met breathlessly
and loved tenderly
you're all i long for
all i worship and adore
fly me to the moon...
