What does good leadership entail?

The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been.
~Henry Kissinger

Leadership should be born out of the understanding of the needs of those who would be affected by it.~Marian Anderson

The leader has to be practical and a realist, yet must talk the language of the visionary and the idealist. ~Eric Hoffer

I used to think that running an organization was equivalent to conducting a symphony orchestra. But I don’t think that’s quite it; it’s more like jazz. There is more improvisation.
~Warren Bennis

People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. . . The leader works in the open, and the boss in covert. The leader leads, and the boss drives.
~Theodore Roosevelt

A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.
~Rosalynn Carter

Before you can lead you have to inspire trust in the people that you want to lead.

In addition I think  you have to be confident, honest, enthusiastic, reliable, and loyal. I also believe there is a certain something, that I can't pinpoint, that  natural leaders have...

Charisma.  You need that.
A leader leads by example, not by declaration.
Leaders are people who are driven by a vision with the ability able to sell it so that others want to see realized as well. Demagogues have this down concept pat.
Ahh! The lead in refers to "Good" leadership.  That is a much more complex question than "What is leadership"?  Or what does being a leader require.
Being good "at" leadership is how I interpreted it, regardless of the spin. Leadership is leadership separate from the brand itself, which is subjective anyway. Hitler was great at leadership, the direction is what was amiss.
