Former American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe is close to signing a deal that will return him to the show. The move could be part of a larger attempt to overhaul the show, which could mean replacing the entire judges panel. Idol creator Simon Fuller is said to be wooing Justin Timberlake and Elton John for slots at the judges’ table.

They are over thinking this. Just choose somebody and get it over with… the auditions are already underway! J Lo would have been good but she’s very high-maintenance, so maybe it’s better she didn’t come aboard. But no matter who they choose, Simon Cowell’s new show will be the main deal anyway, especially if Paula Abdul joins him. “Idol” had its moment; it had a great run for several years, but it’s fading now, and it really doesn’t matter what celebrity ends up joining the judges.

Well, it looks like she's back on board. Apparently, J.Lo wanted a vanity clause and that simply does not exists anymore.

Well, she'd better watch her step here...fans are not that responsive to her--especially because of the diva non-sense that she has been showcasing.

I think that it is quite possible that this is the end of American Idol.
