TBD on Ning

TF suggested we have a film of the month and we all watch it and then we can discuss it (like a book club). Anyone in for this and have a suggestion for our first film?

We could even pose themes and questions prior to watching the film to give us things to think about and look for when watching the film! First of all who is in and then what should we watch first?

Good idea as long as we all have TCM on cable, lol. Looks like 12 angry men there with a young Jack Klugman and a few other stars I can't remember the names of.
I'm in
And "Twelve Angry Men" would be a great start!
Jack Warden, E. G. Marshall, Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, Forgot that next guys' name and Martin Balsam!
There was an episode of the TV show "Charmed" that used the same theme of 12 people (Politically correct phrase - ugh!) on a jury with one dissenting voice. The film (movie) was charmed with a great story, script, an excellent cast who were all on top form. Henry Fonda, as usual, was magnificent.
Thanks for coming, Thomas! (WINK!) There is also a Russian version which came out last year and is being released on video any time now! It sounded interesting!
You're probably thinking of a very young Robert Webber as well as john Fielder. These are two fo the best character actors ever

Robert Webber:

John Fiedler:

Go to imdb and check the c.v. of these guys
Yup! Robert Webber
Ohhhhhhhhh....I'm so excited to try this idea! Count me in,I hope I have enough of a time frame for the films in case I have to order it,to be able to participate?
Well, when I showed this to my students they felt it was dated and they did not love it! (smile)
My son took a literature on film class in college and I sat in on it......and soooooo many of the students, didn't like any of the movie classics.....it's a shame really that they are bored so easily by older movies and closed minded to films from the past.

I thought it was us "old people" who were the ones that are spose to be closed minded....lol
You have to really work with them - but part of it is that the entertainments of today do not require the same kind of attention span - everything seems slow to them when it "builds" to tension for us!
WS I was totally shocked that the kids HATED Citizen Kane! I always thought Citizen Kane was a powerful story and I loved the way it was filmed,it added to the intensity of the story line of the characters as they slowly deteriorate
It was hard to see such indifference for that great film.
