Well, that was a nice improvement over the previous year.

Yesterday was the our second celebration of National Independent Record Store Day, by way of another live remote from our favorite local indie music store, Recycled Records. This time, the equipment was all set up and calibrated, a schedule was in place and those involved knew their place on it, there was adequate promotional activity for the preceding week, and the attempt to up the game a notch with our first celebrity interview went off pretty much as planned, if with a slight, sad hitch.

Last year, while exhilarating, was a seat-of-the-pants demonstration of committed exuberance vs institutional apathy. We learned a fair amount about advance preparation and who to believe when they said that they were going to help. Live Improv Radio can only go so far when the radio itself isn't completely in place....

But we brought in an even larger day of traffic for the store than last year (Which certainly made the store's proprietors happy), after a brief period of confusion the interview with one of the people who helped create the holiday itself went well, their following concert (at another venue) was a blast. Some unhelpful personages from last year were neutralized before they could repeat their antics, and everybody went home happy and with bags of loot.

Plus, my lovely daughter showed up and together we went to a show by another (highly boastful) band who challenged anybody in the room to stump 'em, and stump 'em I did. Don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk, cowboy. A good day altogether. Huz-ZAH!

Roky Erickson & Okkerville River: "True Love Cast Out All Evil"
