Although Rush Limbaugh's verbal assault on Sandra Fluke is both hideous and in keeping with the war on women being waged by his political party, even more disturbing is the silence by leading Republicans that seems to indicate tacit approval of his comments. Props to the president for supporting her.

Trent James - no liberal is going to let facts get in the way of a good narrative that supports their views. I mean the idea that the president felt the need to comment on this of all things tells you all you need to know about how disingenuous this empty suit is. I voted for him too, despite knowing he had some of the lowest levels of experience to do the job than any other modern president in our history - yes McCain was THAT bad. Just think for a second who our president's mentor and close friend and confidant WAS for TWENTY YEARS in Rev Wright. Yet, HE is going to preach about civility in discourse?! The fact IS Rush is a pumkinhead and complete idiot and j-rk for saying what he said, but how can our president listen to the hate coming from wright for sloop long and tell us what civility is all about?? Remember in the ONE TIME in his entire campaign that Obama was asked in a debate whether he would denounce wright , he refused and only denounced farakan. So .... Apparently, it is quite alright to be a foul-mouth, moronic, bigot like wright for 20 years and in fact that warranted Obama elevating him to mentor status, but one bad comment about one person (not a race of people like wright did) is zoo bad as to warrant a civility lesson? I guess mr Obama has a sensitive ear unless it is hatred toward whites like his other well known former mentor and buddy (now deceased) professor Derek bell. Oh and let us not forget his calling the Cambridge pd's behavior toward another African American prof buddy "stupid" before he had any of the pd's account of events. In actuality, having legally represented police for 7 years I can say that their behavior in that case was bybthe book. But hey, forget all those who have publicly made fun of Sarah palin's genitals, or maxine waters calling republicans "evil" in a speech or mr. Obama referring to them in front of an audience of Latinos as "our enemies" - no, none of THAT. Deserves a lecture does it mr. President?!

I have never once in my life voted republican on ANY level and I detest Limbaugh, but for those of you who actually believe that this isn't the pot calling the kettle black and that this whole thing wasn't an orchestrated move to ONCE AGAIN divide us along gender, class, or racial lines as is utterly our PRESIDENT'S PRACTICE so as to ignore the important issues, I say you simply are not trying very hard to be honest. Look at what one man's google search pulled up that mr. Vernon didn't bother to check ( no direct offense to mr. Vernon). But see, I refuse to be so in the tank for either side that I can't call it form what it is ... a rather clever tactic by the white house to get these social issues to take the stage, so the sheep will forget about our exploding debt, a possible breakout of a major war in the middle east, an unemployment number which in real terms is well over 10%, and a border sooo porous that anyone wishing to enter our country to domus harm has free reign to do it.

I know, I can hear the comebacks now ... Limbaugh started this, but before anyone says this, please look into just look into why ms. Fluke was testifying to begin with, and remember that it was Obama appointed HHS director that just happened to force this contraception issue via it's regs, which of course aren't even necessary given that all non-religious employers would have to provide contraception and any woman can get it for $9 a month in the first place. No, this was a trap set that only the moronic republic
Icans could fall into. That is fine, take whatever side of the issue you want, but don't grandstand on Limbaugh if you are going to lap up hate speach and crazy talk for 20 years and turn a blind eye to any dem that does the same thing (like taking a million bucks, despite opposing packs, from a foul-mouthed hater every bit as nasty as rush) or worse off engage initial yourself!

I'm not a Republican so I don't keep up[ wit hthe party, but in the magazines, newspapers, and TV news that I watch I've seen plenty of Republican reaction to his comments. The only thing I find disturbing is that you don't read/see the news sufficiently to have drawn that conclusion from the facts: To wit:

Santorum: "He's being absurd, but that's you know, an entertainer can be absurd."

Boehner spox: "The Speaker obviously believes the use of those words was inappropriate, as is trying to raise money off the situation."

Cantor spox: It's not language the majority leader would condone."

Scott Brown: "Rush Limbaugh's comments are reprehensible. He should apologize."

Darrell Issa: "I find [the] narrow focus on this particular comment to be self-serving and dismissive of other inappropriate comments and attacks on Americans of faith.”

Rush Limbaugh is the bully on the playground.  The leading Republicans are his minions on the playground, afraid of him for what he will do if they cross him.  It's just like grade school.

Calling him a pig is an insult to hogs and swine everywhere who are nowhere as fatuous as he is.

I remember a thread by Vernon a while back titled "Are Republicans mean". I think this latest dispute answers his question very well. With a loud YES.

He apologized only because of pressure put on the sponsors of his show. I sent an e;mail to pro-flowers saying that I would not use them again unless I received notice that they were dropping their sponsorship of his program. So far, it looks like I'll be looking for another source of flowers.

Vernon, Good to see you post.

He has apologized for his 'choice of words', but not for his intent.

I also find it quite disturbing that this sort of behavior is shrugged off.
