Ms. Faithfull's version comes from her live album "20th Century Blues" - Although the weird little preamble about how Harry supposedly died was added to the video, I'd guess as a tribute to Nilsson's own absurdist sense of humor.

Today in Musical History, August 20th:

1982: Robert Wyatt releases "Shipbuilding", written by Clive Langer and Elvis Costello during the Falklands War, about the irony of the British ships, lost in combat, giving a boost to the shipbuilding industry back in Britain - And the British men who gave their lives in that pointless, avoidable war.

Costello himself recorded the song a year later, and released his version on "Punch The Clock".

Makrosoft's snarky "easy-listening" version comes from their album "Stereo Playable Also Mono", a collection of covers that I am convinced make the point that what seems culturally "revolutionary" at the time, eventually becomes just more supermarket background music that shoppers hardly even notice.

2015: The Foo Fighters, after having one of their Kansas City concerts picketed by the Westboro Baptist "Church", had a truck driven up in front of the protesters and drowning them out by blasting Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up". 

Good on the Foo Fighters.
