We have now had the talk, the talk that was criticized for not coming and now, that it has come, some see as politically self-serving and slanted by the very nature of the subject.

On a get-away Friday afternoon, in a steamy, unpleasant Washington, President Obama made a surprise statement about his thoughts on the race, race relationships and the status of a culture dealing with black men, in particular, young, black men, as backstopped by the events of the Zimmerman case in Florida.

This is all a part of the serious discussion we are to have on race in America.

We have been here before, many times in fact. And the discussion has almost always ended in the same place, that yes, there is race in America. And therefore how to frame a discussion that has been so talked about, where that talk has been as to what to discuss, how to discuss and as to what objective.

In the end it has almost always ended as to what does it mean to the individual, what does it mean to me. And of course, none of us are racist or racist as described as the most virulent type, how ever that is described and held to be. And yet, it does exist, color in a society and community, the form of alienation and difference based on skin color; the idea that there are others that are different, have different beliefs, have and express other values and culture, or, another words, people not like us.

People who do not walk in our shoes...no matter the color...black, brown or white.

Steve King: Most young immigrants aren't valedictorians, have 'calves like cantaloupes' for drug smuggling

  • Dislike

House immigration Hawk Steve King, R-Iowa, argued in a colorful interview that the nation's unauthorized immigrants should not be legalized because some of them are drug mules.
King said in an interview last week with Newsmax that he does not buy the argument that unauthorized immigrants are often stellar students who were brought to the country illegally through no fault of their own.
"It's true in some cases," he said. "But for every one who is a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there that weigh 130 pounds and they have calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert."
King added, "Those people would be legalized with the same act."

The tea party conservative said he doesn't believe it's possible to distinguish between immigrants who are criminals and those who are not, so he will not accept an immigration reform bill that legalizes anyone. (Studies suggest that first generation immigrants, regardless of their legal status, are less likely to commit crimes than third generation Americans.)

so nearly all hispanics are drug mules...

nothing like being a patriotic bigot.....wonder where he stands on redneck cracker meth production?

I have long wondered if Steve King and his ilk are on drugs or they're naturally like that...

I think his mother dropped him on his head when he was a baby.

Yes, born in  Chihuahua, Mexico, his family were non-conforming Mormons, that is, believe in plural marriage as a teaching of the church....later, abandon the practice and returned to the US...

The deal was that his parents were American citizens at the time, and as such, George was a "natural" citizen of the United States regardless of his place of birth, see, McCain....

Did you that elephants are extinct in Mexico because of wild Chihuahua packs?

and just so we realize it isn't just in america that we have racial bigotry and problems

Bananas thrown at Italy's first black minister

ROME (Reuters) - Some of Italy's top politicians on Saturday rallied behind the country's first black minister, a target of racist slurs since her appointment in April, after a spectator threw bananas at her while she was making a speech.

Integration Minister Cecile Kyenge, who is originally from Democratic Republic of Congo, was appearing at a political rally in Cervia in central Italy on Friday, when someone in the audience threw bananas towards the stage, narrowly missing it.

Kyenge has faced almost daily racial slurs and threats since joining the government. Earlier this month a senator from the anti-immigration Northern League party likened her to an orangutan and only apologized after a storm of criticism.

Last month, a local Northern League councilor said Kyenge should be raped so she understands how victims of crimes committed by immigrants feel. The councilor has received a suspended jail sentence and a temporary ban from public office.

Racism is not new to Europe, and not resolved.  There have been race riots every few months in parts of Europe mostly in England but most recently in Stockholm, Sweden where in May days of riots were experienced.

And in Europe it is not just race, it is also ethnicity and religion that is the cause of tension and strife in the streets and most visibly in the stadiums.

Soccer has been rife with incidents both annoyances and serious incidents against players and people in the stands that FIFA, the international federation of soccer, now has an ongoing campaign against racism that shows up on the adboards that ring the pitches.
