A former Miss America winner who is now a GOP candidate for Congress was called a string of profane names today, including “street walker,” ”love child” and “Miss Queen. ” Her attacker? A local Republican Party chairman in central Illinois.
Erika Harold, the 2003 winner of the Miss America contest, announced two weeks ago that she was running from Illinois’ 13th District. Her decision to challenge Rep. Rodney Davis in the Republican primary has divided some local party members and prompted the name-calling. A full account of the episode first appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Harold, a 33-year-old graduate of Harvard Law School, is black. The criticism against her – from Jim Allen, chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party – carried strong racist overtones.
He launched his criticism in a letter today to Republican News Watch, a local conservative news site. He derided her Miss America platform of advocating for abstinence and against school bullying.
“The little queen touts her abstinence, and she won the crown because she got bullied in school — boohoo, kids are cruel, life sucks and you move on,” Allen wrote. “Now, Miss Queen is being used like a street walker, and her pimps are the DEMOCRAT PARTY and RINO REPUBLICANS.”
He went on to call her “the love child of the DNC.”
The editor of Republican News Watch, Doug Ibendahl, said the comments were “outrageous” and underscored “why we as Republicans fail to gain any respect from minority voters.

you can just read the papers....it is all there...sometimes between the lines but it is there
seems like they have issues with everyone who isn't just like them....and there isn't anyone the same so they got trouble in river city...on the plus side they show themselves as so hateful that i can't see them being around at all in 20 years...they just voted to cut food stamps....and to restrict abortions....one republican billionaire filed a lawsuit saying in effect that taking away the charitable status of his insurance company penalizes him for his political views (what? rich republicans are sposed to be exempt from taxation?)...and i am still hearing republicans assert that the only flaw in the last election was 'the messenger was flawed' so the message was not the problem, it was all romney's fault....you can roll your eyes and do a forehead slap if it helps..
The Republicans are in deep trouble and it's because of those dingbat Tea Party nuts. They chase away Latino voters, black voters and asian voters. They need to take a lesson from Chris Christie but they even see him as the enemy...lol. The Republicans have let racist and sexist take over their party, along with a few nut cases. It's going to be interesting to see what the future holds for them.
you're right .....dwight eisenhower would have been drummed out of the republican party as a 'rino' if the teaparty had been around. he did all that pinko commie socialist stuff like building the interstate highway networks and warning against the military-industrial complex....(we should have listened more)..not to mention using the national guard to safeguard civil rights for blacks ....
if you read comments after news stories, i am appalled by how many people politicize every news story no matter what the story is about and the number of people who declare that differing from what they hold dear and sacred renders the person different guilty of treason and bereft of any constitutional or human rights. it is a new tribalism reminiscent of the 'everyone but us is an enemy' mentality from the cave days...
maybe cause liberals usually can read...that makes some people real jealouslike
LOL...........
