1972 Christopher Street (N.Y.C) Gay March for civil rights . Later to be called Gay Pride Day . A freind took the picture. Some of us have working for civil rights for a long long time.

Yea i no..be patient change takes time...(missing sarcasm font).

seems like the anti-gay marriage group is having a hard time coming up with valid reasons to prevent the legalizing of gay marriages..and the reasoning gets weirder and more convoluted as they twist and turn

OK, the arguments have been completed in both the Prop. 8 and DOMA cases, and the reading of the tea leaves has begun.

So far, it appears Prop. 8 is going to "win" and DOMA is going to "lose" with the actual decisions to be delivered at the end of the term in June.  And yes, winning and losing is going to highly subjective and certainly speculative as to the judgement will be.

What can be said is never has the subject of "gay", "gays" and civil rights been more exposed to the American people.

Overall, the country can be said to be more accepting of alternative lifestyles in general and equality of rights and opportunity to those that practice those alternative lifestyles, and seemingly with a change in demographics even more accepting.

What has to be a concern is will the legal acceptance of alternative lifestyle be proscribed by constraints and limits imposed, say, by trumping rights of states to determine legal status of its citizens, or is all of this trumped by the civil rights intended in the constitution to include individual rights of association and sex.

And no, it still probably won't be decided in June, and certainly won't, if the court determines that the case is premature and without merit(of, course, then the question is why did the court take the case?).

The one thing I neither like nor understand is the term “gay lifestyle.”  In fact, I will go so far as to say that labeling gays or lesbians as having some different “lifestyle” in unfair and may very well fuel the prejudice many feel toward them.  Do gays or lesbians go out and choose some other “style” of living their lives? I haven’t seen that. In fact, gay people live their lives pretty much the way we do: they get up in the morning, go to work and try to make an honest buck, enjoy a good meal, catch a good movie or play when they can, observe the wonders of the world and just enjoy their families.  And, yes, often live lives of quiet desperation. Using the term “gay lifestyle” only helps to portray them as some weird group somewhere on the fringe of society.

I agree... Like some people seem to have to politicize just about everything, some people seem to think every thing's about sex.  If that's not the implication, then excuse me.

 now there's a surprise....

no spousal or family in for health insurance so both parties have to pay full pop for a policy  and that's IF they can afford it..

Cohabiting Same-Sex Couples Report Worse Health Than Married Heterosexuals

By -- Randy Dotinga

WEDNESDAY, Feb. 27 (HealthDay News) -- Same-sex couples who live together report having worse health than heterosexual married couples, a new study finds.

It's not clear why there's a difference, and the study, published in the March issue of the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, doesn't examine the health records of the people who took the surveys. Instead, it relies on how people described their health.

Still, "when we controlled for socioeconomic status, the odds of reporting poor or fair health were about 61 percent higher for same-sex cohabiting men than for men in heterosexual marriages. And the odds of reporting poor or fair health were about 46 percent higher for same-sex cohabiting women than for women in heterosexual marriages," Hui Liu, lead study author and an assistant professor of sociology at Michigan State University, said in a journal news release.

The study looked at how nearly 1,700 same-sex cohabiting men and about 1,600 same-sex cohabiting women described their health and compared the results to different-sex married, different-sex cohabiting, unpartnered divorced, widowed, and never-married counterparts. The findings came from a larger study of whites, blacks and Hispanics aged 18 to 65 who were surveyed from 1997 to 2009.

Why might same-sex couples report worse health?

"Research consistently suggests that 'out' sexual minorities experience heightened levels of stress and higher levels of discrimination, and these experiences may adversely affect the health of this population," Liu said. "It may also be that same-sex cohabitation does not provide the same psychosocial, socioeconomic and institutional resources that come with legal marriage, factors that are theorized to be responsible for many of the health benefits of marriage."

So anyway, Kansas wants to quarantine people with HIV and AIDS

A new bill that calls for people with HIV or AIDS to be isolated or "have their movements restricted" is close to being passed in Kansas. The bill would amend the state's existing health statute to allow for quarantine of people with infectious diseases. Although Democratic Sen. Marci Francisco is trying to exempt people with HIV/AIDS (the disease isn't transmitted through casual contact), the bill has already made it through the state Senate and could be passed over the next few weeks. Cody Patton, who heads the sexual health charity Positive Directions, says, "We live in a very conservative state and I'm afraid there are still many people, especially in rural Kansas, that have inadequate education and understanding concerning HIV/AIDS."
