Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a new state immigration bill that President Barack Obama called "misguided" hours earlier.

Brewer, saying that the state had been "more than patient waiting for Washington to act" on the issue of illegal immigration, said that the bill would protect Arizona citizens without violating individuals' constitutional rights.

The sweeping legislation makes it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. It also requires local police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegally.

At a press conference to announce her decision to sign the bill, the Arizona governor countered the claim of opponents who have said that the law essentially legalizes racial profiling.

"I will not tolerate racial discrimination or racial profiling in Arizona," Brewer said.

Does anyone think if Arizona people weren't hiring undocumented workers to build their houses, and take care of their lawns and their children, the workers would stay in the state? Talk about hypocritical.

There must be a virus in the air...State after State has decided to thumb its nose at the Constitution and federal authority. AND...I'd bet if asked privately, every Copper's Nark in Arizona silently went "Oh SHIT...not ANOTHER one!"
First we had the idiots (like those who run THIS state) deciding to challenge Health Care and saying that it doesn't affect this state...sigh. NOW we have a state that has decided To Hell with Federal Immigration and the border patrol. Last time I checked, the STATES did not have the power to kick anyone out of the country.

And they RAIL against wasting tax dollars.

Sometimes, all you can do is shake your head.
I have a relative who makes judgements based on looks, imagined qualities - such as "You can always tell a criminal, b/c his eyes are narrow, or he has the eyes of a rapist."etc. This person did not wear a badge, however, but those who do, like the sherrifs there....free reign to exercise an instant judgement just because your day started out crappy, or you don't want to lose your job. Watch.
My first though was what happened to probable cause, apparently in Arizona it's been replaced with a belief.
"We can't walk to school any more. We can't be in the streets anymore without the pigs thinking we're illegal immigrants."

Or possibly just the ones who refer to them thusly?
"Physician, heal thyself."
And yet the SS admin doesnt refuse the FICA funds with held from a bogus social security number's holder. Nor, do they report them to the authorities. In most cases, if you cross reference number and age of the preson holding the number the system will flag it. EX: "unless this person is 86 years old, this number may be being used by someone other than the person to whom the number was issued"...sitting in front of me is a person in their 20's who speaks NO English.
First, this is an over simplified rationalization for racial profiling.

Second...every cop with a CI is shaking his head...because those CIs are now going to shut up and disappear, making their job much more difficult.

Third, when I served on the Federal Grand Jury about 7 years ago, I discovered that for $300, I can have a new identity...birth certificate, driver's license, SS card, credit card...the works. MORE than enough 'identification' to pass any cursory inspection.
The birth of a new cottage industry—fake papers.
" I discovered that for $300, I can have a new identity...birth certificate, driver's license, SS card, credit card...the works. MORE than enough 'identification' to pass any cursory inspection."

But, if employers were required to perform "due dilligence", these papers wouldn't stand up. And, there would be no jobs for the holders of these papers.

Employers ARE required to perform "Due Diligence" however...what to some may mean Due Diligence to others might seem nothing more than a cursory glance...because the bottom line is still the bottom line, papers be damned.
The Arizona law is unconstitutional because the federal government has the sole right to determine citizenship, and it has the sole right to authorize the pursuit and treatment of possible illegal aliens.

Arizona SB 1070 is too broad and leaves the option open to profile people. Yes, a police officer can ask to see your ID with no cause, but you can also refuse if they don't have a probably cause to see it.

It would be different if they were looking to increase border patrols, but to stop a person just because they are Latino?

If an officer chooses, they can take these "suspects" in until they can verify who they are. They're guilty of being Latino in Public.

So Rico Hermano is out walking his dog without his ID on him, he can be taken into custody until somebody can bring his ID in for him. It doesn't matter if he's a third generation American born citizen, he's Latino, so he's suspect.

Perhaps Latino citizens should be given little gold stars to pin on their jackets so they are easier to identify...

And they call Obama a Nazi... geez...
"Breathing While Brown," as Bill Maher puts it.
