A heated court case has seen a burqa-wearing woman convicted of making a false complaint to police – She claimed a policeman tried to remove her burqa to check her identity, but his official video proved otherwise. So is this ongoing social friction just another argument for banning the burqa?

Although this particular incident occurred in Australia, I don't believe it shows that there is a need for any new laws restricting the attire of Muslim women who choose to wear the burqa as everyday attire.
The very last comment was interesting to me. The Islamic Association of Australia stated that it was permissable in their view for a woman wearing a burqa to show her face to a police officer requesting it.
And they both said "bye bye" to each other at the end of the incident!
I think it shows a civil society working within its laws.
I think it also shows that there are troublesome people in every society.
I agree. This story does not make a good case for banning the Burqa and I dont think there is a good case.
Exceptions for identification and security reasons are reasonable and should be made very public.
This is however a good example of how the racism charge gets flung around way too much and taken advantage of. It will get to the point, if we are not there already, that nobody will take the racism charge seriously.
The boy that cried wolf scenario.
