We finally watched this.  I loved it--any kind of adventure travel thing holds my attention, and his transformation was interesting.  And I cried a little at the end.  The message was a good one.  Thanks for the tip, Frenchy.  The old Walter Mitty that I taught or the one with Danny Kaye was nothing like this one at all.

you might want to watch 'Words and Pictures' with Julliette Binoche and Clive Owen. It's  an understated character study of two people and their interactions. owen plays a middleaged honors english/writing teacher and binoche is a new hire honors art teacher. i would recommend it. (incidentally it is also nice to see leading men and women progress beyond who they played in their 20s and 30s)

i knew you'd like it cresty ..

hmm.. i wonder if netflix has words and pictures .. probably not cause if i saw it i'd have put it on my list .. i like clive owen and i loved julliette binoche in dan in real life .. somethin about that movie that just got to me .. i'll probably have to go to the library for that ..

Sounds like a movie I'd love.  BTW, I have no clue why Clive Owens did not win something for his portrayal of an arrogant, innovative doctor at the turn of the century who is totally a drug addict.  He is wonderful in The Nick.

i liked' clive in closer with julia roberts and jude law and natlie portman .. its kinda sad what they do to love tho ..

just watched another little gem of a movie and wanted to recommend two movies.

one is "The Grand Seduction"      http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2319580/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Storyline

The small harbor of Tickle Cove is in dire need of a doctor so that the town can land a contract to secure a factory which will save the town from financial ruin. Village resident Murray French (Gleeson) leads the search, and when he finds Dr. Paul Lewis (Kitsch) he employs - along with the whole town - tactics to seduce the doctor to stay permanently.

the other is "Away From Her"            http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0491747/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Storyline

Grant and Fiona Anderson have been married for forty-four years. Their marriage has been a generally happy and loving one although not perfect due to some indiscretions when Grant was working as a college professor. Fiona has just been admitted to Meadowlake, a long term care facility near their country home in southwestern Ontario, because her recent lapses of memory have been diagnosed as a probable case of Alzheimer's disease. She and Grant made this decision together, although a still lucid Fiona seems to have made peace with the decision and her diagnosis more so than Grant.

by the by...here is the info for "Words and Pictures"          http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2380331/?ref_=tt_rec_tt

Storyline

A flamboyant English teacher (Clive Owen) and a new, stoic art teacher (Juliette Binoche) collide at an upscale prep school. A high-spirited courtship begins and she finds herself enjoying the battle. Another battle they begin has the students trying to prove which is more powerful, the word or the picture. But the true war is against their own demons, as two troubled souls struggle for connection.

I saw Away from Her a few years ago. Excellent.  I am working on Words and Pictures.  My son has ways...

go to your local library website and check their dvd catalogue to request it. if they don't own it, you can go in person and make a request for an ILL (interlibrary loan). they search THEIR database and will bring in a copy by borrowing from another library. they usually have it within about a week.
