Huge Asteroid to Fly Safely By Earth Monday: Watch It Live

An asteroid the size of three football fields is set to make a close brush of Earth on Monday (Feb. 17), and you can watch the flyby in a live webcast.

Near-Earth asteroid 2000 EM26 poses no threat of actually hitting the planet, but the online Slooh Space Camera will track the asteroid as it passes by Earth on Monday. The live Slooh webcast will start at 9 p.m. EST (0200 Feb. 18 GMT), and you can also watch the webcast directly through the Slooh website.

You can also watch the asteroid broadcast live on Space.com. Scientists estimate that 2000 EM26 is about 885 feet (270 meters) in diameter, and it is whizzing through the solar system at a break-neck 27,000 mph (12.37km/s), according to Slooh. During its closest approach, the asteroid will fly about 8.8 lunar distances from Earth. [See photos of potentially dangerous asteroids]

I'm not going anywhere, French. I will just stay out of posts that I find to be antagonistic. I am a big girl, and I never pick up my marbles and go home. I have only quit two groups ever....and that was back on Eons. I joined a group about the Civil War, because, as you know, I am very interested in that period of history.....and then found out that group was still fighting that war! I lasted two days, I think :-). I like a healthy exchange of ideas. And I don't like being "PC". I don't offend all that easily. There is a thin line between opinion and "bashing". I take exception to be talked down to. I don't expect everyone to agree with me. Quite the opposite; I know I am in an extreme minority on these sites. But I don't try to "convert" anyone to my point of view, nor do I insult the intelligence of those who disagree with me.....hauling out articles and studies and editorials that espouse my beliefs. I have always believed n "live and let live". I keep quiet, trying not to ruffle any feathers, afraid to be tarred and feathered if they know where I stand. But day after day, over and over, I have sat back and watched people like me being trashed and belittled. It gets a little much sometimes....you know? So, although I'm not turning tail and running, I will absent myself from posts and topics I feel problematic. The only reason I answered this post in the first place was because the topic seemed harmless enough. It took a turn I was not expecting. I realise I'm the "black sheep" in this group. I will pick and choose my topics and words carefully. I think very highly of you, French, and appreciate your conciliatory words. You're a real Mensch. :-)

well ya know karin sometimes it takes a voice from the other side to balance things out .. if everybody in the group is sayin the same thing thats nice sometimes too but it might get a little borin .. maybe not .. but it might .. so no need to be a shrinkin violet .. no need to be a rantin lunatic either .. sometimes i read what some of these posts say and i just laugh .. cause no matter how you look at it sometimes both sides can be ridicules .. i try to never let anyone elses point of view cloud my day .. you wanna believe that pluto is a planet ?? go ahead .. you wanna believe that pluto ain't a planet ?? go ahead too .. either way i'm still gonna have turkey salad for lunch if you get my drift .. or in other words whatever anybody elses point of view is its not gonna effect my day one way or the other .. and why should it ?? far as religion goes if you wanna worship a piece of lint that you carry around in your pocket thats fine .. i'm still gonna have turkey salad for lunch .. anyway i think you get my drift .. just be yourself .. we wouldn't want you any other way .. you're not broken as you are .. no need to fix you ..
