How do you tell the difference

Between allergies and a bad cold? To my knowledge I have never had alllergies but the cottonwood is horrible this year and I can't get over what ever I have.

I have never had allergies, either.....but something that's growing here in Virginia is getting to me.  My eyes hurt and my sinuses are going nuts.  Oh well....it'll pass.

Dwalt...I have actually had seasonal allergies most of my life though the past few years I seemed to have "grown out of them" so I guess it can work the other way. My son has severe asthma AND allergies and in an attempt to help him find relief, he took something called QUERCETIN/BROMELAIN. Can be found in Vitamin places like GNC. It worked amazingly well for HIS allergies and MY allergies which started out HORRENDOUS that year were nearly non existent when I used it that year and after. I didnt use it anymore because I FORGOT to and the past 10 years or so, I havent HAD any allergies to speak of.

I've grown into my allergies as I've  aged. I had skin allergies when I was younger...had sensitivities to soaps and detergents...used to give me rashes. I have found things I can use that don't break me out. Now that I'm older, my sinuses get clogged, hard to breath, I have to be careful not let the stuff stop me up too long or I get an infection. I take Allegra and use nose  sprays to keep things dried up. It's a pain but it is what it is.

And truly, it doesn't matter if it's a cold or allergies... you pretty much treat them the same way... you treat the symtoms.

I'm not familiar with the neti pot that Kathy apparently uses.

I smoke regular pot and have not been bothered by colds or allergies.........I'm not even bothered by life......and it's legal where you live dwalt. Be proactive 'a toke a day keeps life at bay'.

I have had sore throats with allergies as well.  Docs look in there and know immediately it's my allergies.  A person can have a cough as well due to post nasal drip.  With allergies, I don't feel sick--just annoyed by symptoms.  With a cold, I feel tired and weak and don't want to move much.

Netti pots are hard to work with and make me feel like I'm drowning.  Just a simple saline nasal spray used every day should help clear out the allergens from your nasal passages.

 

I have allergies all year long due to something or other. They are worse in spring and even worse in the fall!  Hang in Dwalt!

Thanks ya'll.  Some how I can't see me using the neti pot thing. Kim, I'm going to try what you said.  Gonna stop today and buy it.  123 it is legal here and I might be tempted but if you get caught using it on a drug test you get fired here and I like to eat  (so do my horses) so can't do that.

The "allergy" I have is more like a sensitivity if I'm around poisons like in the garden center or driving by a field of broccoli where they've sprayed my lips go numb. It happened one day where I was working I told the Controller and he immediately called in the furnace people. They found a big problem (fixed it) thanks to my sensitive lips.
