Funny you should mention that.....I just went out to mail a Valentine to my youngest granddaughter. I have a couple of male email pals...one I met on Classmates, one on Eons.......and an old friend in Illinois....that I send e-cards to. I like funny Valentines, slightly flirtacious. We used to hand make Valentines with colored paper, paper doilies, and pictures we cut out of magazines. We'd think up corny funny lines to go with the picture. We would make a big box, decorated with hearts, and with a slot on top. For over a week we would put our homemade Valentines in it. Then, on Valentines Day, we'd open the box and pass out our cards. We'd get a lot of laughs out of it. And I always made some special Valentines goodies....cookies or cupcakes.....to munch on. I wish I had a Valentine to buy a card for. I miss that.

Every year I make Valentine sugar cut out cookies with Almond Buttercream frosting and send them to my kids that live out of state.  They look forward to them.

Hi Carrie ! welcome to ta group .

Thank you Wayne.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger.  :-)

Too freaking cold! I never liked Valentine's Day, but I've had some nice ones. I never liked February.  I have cabin fever and want to go out and play in the dirt, but all I see is snow snow snow!

But Happy Valentine's Day to you, Wayne!

Thanks . We going to get 6 to 10 inches of snow tomorrow and Thursday . may be more than that . Be first decent snow we may have in long time . Daughtdr said it wzs 72 in Florida  near the space center .

I've always had dogs and we've always romped--I have loved winter. Now my one little dog that I have left is old and stiffens up in the snow, so it's a hassle for her.  And now, I think with me it might be age related, (Callie wait--you'll see. I"ve got ten years on you--I was perky ten years ago--where did that go) I can't deal with it. But, actually, I am dealing--off to fill in for a sick teacher every day again, and the subject matter is just what I love to talk about.

But I'll stop whining--maybe, lol.  You have heard my last winter whine of the year--I promise, which means spring is coming.

I really like your whining so whine on . Take a sip or two of wine ...

This Sunday I'm doing a Valentine's Day show - Do any of you have a certain song that you'd like to dedicate to a special Luv Monkey ?

They don't have to actually listen to the show, you know...It can be Your Little Secret. If you want me to play it, let me know ASAP - In case I don't have it, and have to get it from the local library or something.

Trust Me - It's FUN. I've done this a few times before, and the results are always...interesting.

Snagg where , how do you do a show ?

I'm a volunteer DJ at a local non-profit, community-access radio station. I go in Sunday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 or 10:00 and play pretty much whatever I damn well please. (What the hell, nobody's listening anyway.)

A lot of what I do there is meant as a sort of cynical-but-affectionate parody of 60's-style radio, and that includes being an actual human being with his own musical taste, who gets to choose what he plays, and the listening public trusts him or her to play something interesting and entertaining - Unlike the modern paradigm, where the DJ is an obedient drone who does what he's told and can be fired simply for playing one song that isn't on some market-research firm's lousy playlist. (Most DJ's these days never actually touch a record or a cd - It's all piped in from a bunker in Dallas or somewhere, and all the DJ's do is local commercials, sports and weather. That's why you can literally hear the same song being played on a hundred different stations at the same moment, from coast to coast.)

Anyway, back to this Valentine's Day-request thing: Another little-known fact is that, unlike in the old days, when DJ's would invite people to call in and make requests, that actually happened. Live. On your radio.

Nowadays, when you hear a request or a dedication, 99999.9% of the time it's a scripted bit of fakery, an actor paid to sit in the studio and "request" a song that's already a hit, with a "dedication" for a non-existent boyfriend or wife or whatever  - And then they electronically treat the actor's voice to make it sound like it's a phone call. Then the recording sits on a computer as a file until the DJ gets an order to pimp that particular song - days or even weeks later - Taps his keyboard and what sounds like a perky, love-struck teenage girl squeaking her devotion pops out of your speakers, along with the song that the focus-group demographic predicts will draw the most listeners to your station at that particular moment - Quickly followed by the best-paying advertisers' commercials.

Depressing, ain't it ? I say screw all that. Real, live people and what they ask for is soooooo much more interesting and entertaining. This is the playlist from the 2011 Valentine's Day show:

Every one of those requests came from friends here on TDB, FB, my personal circle of friends, their friends and listeners who phoned in to the station while I was on deck. (Some of 'em may even have actually had their sweeties listen in as I was doing it, those mad romantics.) You literally can not hear a list of songs like that anywhere else in the world, because I let my listeners have some fun all chipping in and picking the songs themselves - At least for that one night. Just for the 100% sheer hell of it.

And that's what I'm trying to do this Sunday night. Normally, I start the list a few months in advance, but a few months ago I wasn't even sure I was going to be at the station this Valentine's Day (among other things), and as a result this is unhappily last-minute. But hey, that's where the fun comes in - Scrambling around to lash this thing together by the skin of my teeth, scraping together eclectic requests as best as I can, all in the name of Luv Sweet Luv - What's not to like about that ?

So...Got any requests ?
