This is banned book week

I was not familiar with the National Banned Book Week and that it is being celebrated this week in America.  However, my book library system, Library Thing, reminded me today and published a listing of about 150 books that have been banned, connecting them with the ones I have cataloged. I don't understand this.  If you don't want your child reading a book don't let them.  If you don't like a book put it down and don't pick it back up and don't recommend it.  But if another adult person wants to read it that's up to them.   That's just how I feel about it.

"The Things They Carried"...certainly NOT a normal choice for me but I lived that era and even though it was hard reading/listening (which was even more compelling) it made me realize what so many of my friends had to cope with.
