GALVESTON (Houston Business Journal) – Kroger and Frito-Lay have joined forces to raise funds for a new park on Galveston’s Seawall Blvd.

The companies hope to raise $1 million through their donation program, dubbed “Chip in for Galveston.”

Between Aug. 23 and Sept. 19, the partnership will donate $1 each time someone buys two bags of SunChips snacks at any of Kroger’s 2,400 grocery stores.

The funds raised will be matched with federal grants to create an environmentally themed park on the site of Fort Crockett Park at 47th St., home to the statue commemorating the Great Storm of 1900.

The revitalized park could include solar-panel lighting, an open-air pavilion and landscaping projects.

sounds good, but I'd rather see more flood prevention.
