Right now take-out Chinese sounds good. Except my favorite place doesn't deliver and I don't want to go out. In the heat. And the rain. And the Tornado warning.

Homemade chili.  Didn't have chili powder so used taco mix and added some chipotle seasoning.  Didn't have kidney beans so used pinto.  All together it was fine.

Actually, I found out this morning that is was OKRA!!!!

I must recant my distaste for said veggie, I liked it.

 

 

And, NO, that does not mean I will eat grits!

Just don't ever let anybody talk you into eating boiled okra. It is slimey and will just slide around your mouth. Okra should only be eaten in things like gumbo or soup and fried. This is the advice of a life long southerner.

Battered & deep-fried okra ain't too bad, if you find a place that knows the right way to fix it. Unfortunately, there aren't any of those around here. Best I ever had was at a diner in Georgia some years back.
