Police: Girl, 13, rode in cardboard box atop van
Mom allegedly said that's OK — coat hanger held it down

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - A woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van, police said.

Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old Alabama woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top, The Huntsville Times reported.

Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.

Smith said the mother told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger. The 13-year-old daughter wasn't harmed and was turned over to a relative. A jail worker said the mother was out on bond Monday.

(This girl manage to survive 13 years with this 'mother' so far????? Uhmmmm....how???)
Police say the man drove through a construction zone at 87 mph, nearly twice the speed limit, before being stopped.

They seized the man's driver's license, and a judge ordered him tested for medications and illegal drugs.

Police said Monday the man racked up 15 traffic violations in 11 minutes.

(Geezzee!!! I wonder if he was holding a cell phone too??)

I Brought You Into This World…
...and I'll take you out! Who hasn't heard of this joking phrase often attributed to exasperated parents. Well, an 83 year old San Antonio man must have meant it even if he didn't say it. Early Friday morning, after his 50 year old son refused to stop playing drums Dad shot him. The son was grazed on the head by the bullet and ran up the street to call for help. If at 50 you are going to still live with a parent then it is advisable to follow house rules. The elderly man was charged with aggravated assault but when he gets out I bet Junior will listen next time dad says to stop that noise.
Folks---no matter how far this subject goes into the archives or TBDdom---unfortunately--the saga continues!!!

Police: Fla. man stole ferret by hiding it in pants
Suspect faces theft, battery charges for dangerously wielding the animal

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - It's one thing for shoplifters to hide plunder in their pants. But a live ferret?

Police say a homeless man in north Florida did just that. And he made it out the door before being challenged.

Thirty-eight-year-old Rodney Bolton is charged with theft over the $129 animal that police say he took from a pet store in Jacksonville Beach

A 17-year-old witness confronted Bolton in the parking lot and was bitten by the animal after the man allegedly shoved it in the teen's face.

That confrontation makes the ferret a "special weapon" under Florida law. So Bolton also faces battery charges for dangerously wielding the animal.

Calls to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Department to see if Bolton has a lawyer were not answered early Thursday.
This happened locally and recently.......

Woman drives into aquarium at Tampa airport
Motorist, child OK after vehicle slams into 1,500-gallon tank

updated 1:33 p.m. ET, Tues., Nov . 10, 2009

TAMPA, Fla. - The driver and the child in her lap survived when a pickup slammed into a 1,500-gallon aquarium at Tampa International Airport, officials said. The tropical fish were not so lucky.

Airport officials say 36-year-old Yamile Campuzano-Martine lost control of her truck and drove into the saltwater tank outside the American Airlines baggage claim Monday night. Airport spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan said the driver had an unrestrained 6-year-old boy in her lap.

About 90 percent of the 30 to 40 saltwater fish in the tank were killed.
The aquarium was part of a public art program. The airport spent $200,000 on the exhibit, which included the 12-foot tank.

Campuzano-Martine was cited for careless driving. No number was listed for her in public records.
Then there are criminals--who really don't know how to get the job done right!

By LILY FU

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - A man allegedly carried out a drive-by shooting that targeted his ex-girlfriend's house, but he forgot to do one thing -- roll down his window.

City Pages reports that Andrew J. Burwitz, 20, of Appleton, Wis., was charged with four counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, four counts of endangering safety by reckless use of a firearm, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

The Appleton Post-Crescent writes that the occupants in the home were awakened by the sound of breaking glass and saw a car driving off. Bullets were found on the exterior of the house and three had entered the living room, but no one was injured. Sheriffs were led to Burwitz after they found shards of glass in the street and traced him to a local auto glass repair shop where he replaced his window after filing an insurance claim.
Would that qualify as a double jeopardy?

Fla. man arrested for calling 911, asking for sex
Police: Man called five times, said he had run out of cell phone minutes
updated 8:39 a.m. ET, Fri., Nov . 13, 2009
TAMPA, Fla. - Florida police say a man arrested for repeatedly calling 911 looking for sex claimed it was the only number he could dial after running out of cell phone minutes.

Tampa police said 29-year-old Joshua Basso made sexual comments to the 911 dispatcher and asked if he could come to her house. Investigators say she hung up, but he called back four more times.

Arrested later
He was arrested about 15 minutes later at his home late Wednesday and charged with making a false 911 call. Basso reportedly told officers that he didn't think he would get in trouble for calling 911.

Tampa jail records show Basso is being held without bond but don't indicate whether he has an attorney. He is listed as unemployed with arrests for theft and other crimes dating back to 2001.

Thieves Crash Stolen Van After Discovering Lion Inside
Published by MoonDog on November 17, 2009

Some thieves got more than they bargained for when they stole a van from outside a circus in Germany, that had a sleeping lion inside.

Caesar, a five-year-old circus lion, was recovering after being mistakenly taken by thieves.

He was in a Mercedes van that was stolen in the western German town of Wuppertal. Some time later the van was dumped, with its engine running, after the thieves crashed into a road sign – possibly after hearing a roar from the back.

Police then towed away the van, also unaware of its cargo. The hungry lion was discovered hours later.

“Caesar is fine. We’re not worried about him,” said Laurens Thoen, a spokesman for Circus Probst. The thieves have not been found.

Man accused of locking young sons in trunk

Fall River — A Martha’s Vineyard man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly locking his two young sons in the trunk of his car while he went inside a local business.

Michael B. Monahan, 35, of Aquinnah, was arraigned Wednesday in District Court on charges of domestic assault and wanton or reckless endangerment of a child.

He pleaded innocent and was released on cash bail.

Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Mauretti said a man who works inside the Cherry Street sailing shop noticed Monahan with his 1998 Pontiac Grand Am trunk open with “two small children and he’s changing their clothes.”

The man told police he thought it was “kind of odd” that the children were naked while being changed in the trunk on the drizzly day, Mauretti said.

When Monahan entered the shop, the witness asked where the two children were and the suspect told him inside the car, Mauretti related. But when the witness persisted and went outside to look inside the car windows, he did not see the children.

When the man asked the suspect further about the children, he said Monahan took out a set of keys, unlocked the trunk and there were the two boys, the younger sleeping and his brother crying, Mauretti said.

Police learned later that a Coleman gas can was in the trunk.

The businessman told the boys’ father he was calling the police. After “heated conversation over the matter,” the man said Monahan put the boys in the car and left the scene, Mauretti related.

The witness noted the registration number and notified police.

Detective Lawrence Ferreira, along with other Major Crimes Division detectives, tracked Monahan down after running the plate number.

Suspecting he may have taken the boys home, police had state police on Martha’s Vineyard check the residence and a school for the children, but they were not found there. Also, the Steamship Authority indicated no such vehicle was taken to the island.

The children’s mother was located through a phone number and she went to the Fall River police station.

“Eventually the father came to the station, was questioned and arrested,” Mauretti said.

The state Department of Children and Families was notified and the children were placed in the mother’s care, he said.

Mauretti commended the man from the sailing shop for his efforts.

“The civilian’s persistence in looking out for the safety of the children is commendable,” he said.
