I was very seriously nearly murdered today....and I am not joking.  Ok--welll maybe not murdered---but who knows how much damage could have been done to my adorable little body?  Yeah--actually---come to think of it......I was very nearly murdered today!!!

Here is what happened.  I was coming out of a Stop And shop, (The Northeast answer to Krogers) walking towards my vehicle.  Now remember--this is a PARKING LOT, and I at this time WAS A PEDESTRIAN WALKING in this parking lot.  All of a sudden this vehicle which was being driven by this lady TALKING ON A CELL PHONE, obviously not paying attention, and driving at a speed that should never, ever even be considered to be used any where in any parking lot what soever came zooming down the lane.

I am telling you folks--if it wasn't for my ability to feel vibrations, (Being deaf--my sense of touch is hyped, allowing me to feel vibrations instead of hearing noises), I would not be using this keyboard--and maybe not even breathing this air right now----I was able to jump quick enough and far enough to cause this lady to miss me by mere inches--and I don't think I am exaggerating.  If I didn't have heart problems before now--I sure heck would have gain them today.

Now--I do not know what was being said to her on that cellphone that would encourage the female driver to be so uncourteous to anyone who may or may not have been in front of her vehicle---but I gotta ask you something.  The last time I check--the rule was that pedestrians always had the right of way ESPECIALLY IN A PARKING LOT.  Now does this rule still exist--or did my life hang in the balance for nothing today????

Thanks Sandy. Yeah--I think I am alright--Unless of course the incident caused me to have an outerbody experience--and that is the body I have right now! sheesh!
Glad you are OK!! Driving a car is basically moving several thousand pounds of rolling metal through a maze. This should take considerably concentration, but sadly too many people driving cars forget what they are doing, end up in day dreams, or in your case in the cell phone zone.
Some people get wrapped up in their own little world and pay no attention to what is going on.
Glad you are ok.
Although I'm not an Oprah "fan " per say - I am very behind her not cell phone texting and driving hands free campaign. This is horrible and it's a pity you don't catch her license plate number ( another reason why I think it should be mandatory ( as it is in Canada) to have your plates on the front and the rear of the car). I would not have hesitated to file a complaint, and a snap from your cell phone camera (if you had one with you) would have helped your case.

Now more than ever - we sorry sods who actually need to walk from point a to point b have to walk defensively - too.

Thank goodness you were awake and aware and listening to your instincts and senses HaH ! (((((HUGS)))))
Around here there are certain areas marked in front of the stores that give the pedestrian the right-of-way. I still look to make sure the approaching cars realize that. I nearly got run over by a Wal-Mart employee but she knew me and I think she was gunning for me. Ha.

Glad you survived. I'd hate for you to have missed the Jets being in the Super Bowl next year. :-)
Well they be playing the Kansas City Chiefs by any chance?
One can dream.
In RI they are not suppose to use a cellphone unless it is a hand free phone. And just recently--(You people are going to laugh about this--but I am not lying here), The law makers of The state of Rhode Island LITERALLY had to designate a law--that made a felony out of the act of texting while driving. (I can almost see all of you going 'Well DUH!") The punishment is either a $5,000 fine--a license being revolked--and in some cases--up to a year in jail depending on the result of the incident.
The law in Washington says that cars cannot proceed through an intersection if someone is crossing in ANY part of the crosswalk; the cars must wait until the pedestrian gets completely to the curb on the other side of the street. Unfortunately, a lot of drivers ignore this law. A lot of drivers turn right and ignore pedestrians and bikes. In my town, I do a lot of jaywalking, because intersections in my town are extremely dangerous. I'm safer jaywalking than using the intersections. Even where a crosswalk is not painted on the pavement, Washington has an "invisible crosswalk law like CA does.
Thank Daz--and others who have commented. Yes--The Hands of God was with me once again. However--this is not the first time a car did not stop for the pedestrian. granted--I have not seen this extreme of a situation in a long while. A long, long while. Well...a long, long, long looonngggg while--(Ok--i think you get the point!) But let face it--a driver of a vehicle--must remember that the pedestrian has the right away at all time--even if they are jay walking. this is why you drive at less then 5 MPH (Or whatevel the KM in Canada is) when you are in a parking lot until u get to the point where u are absolutely sure there is no danger of any pedestrian who will walk out in front of you. I can not even count how many times when this very, very simple rule is ignored by even the best of drivers. I myself am always very conscious and aware of the opening doors--and the people who are walking but not paying attention--AND LOOKING BOTH WAYS as they cross the street like they are suppose. U know--following some very basic and easy to understand rules are literal lifesavers when they are used to thier potentials.
I don't want to keep on haping on the subject--but I was just thinking---what if I was a little kid who have gotten away from the shopping cart that my mommy or daddy was pushing? Do people who do these type of things--no matter what speed they drive at--even give this any consideration at all???
The following link is an extreme circumstances--but still it is just as tragic and it is just as sad. This should be a LOUD AND CLEAR WARNING that a driver of a vehicle must always--always--always be very keenly aware of thier surroundings and what is going on within thier vehicle's area.
