How do you throw away a garbage can?

I tried to recycle a recycle bin once Slim. I already had 2, and the wind delivered another one morning. I asked neighbors, and nobody said they had one missing. I put it out on recycle day with a cardboard sign on it saying it wasn't mine, and wanted it to be recycled. They guy took the cardboard sign, and left the bin. It wouldn't fit in my trash can so I took an ax to it and put it in the trash.
