I love that line. It's the best line I ever heard.
YES!!!! These past few months being called back to work--I HATED IT!!!!!! DONE! A couple more days of grading papers and entering grades, and I am DONE!!!!!!
Also, I worked in a huge office once with around thirty other people. I, to this day, have no clue what I was doing, what the job was. It was simple, but I did it badly, I am sure. I had to check this against that and cross this off--who knows! It was at Faberge. After that stupid job, I worked for Yves St. Laurent where the workers did cocaine at lunch and came back all weirded out. Both those jobs I left in less than a year. Then I worked for doctors and loved it.
Then I got pregnant, a job I loved!
i had a job in 84 workin for a warehouse that handled all kinds of buildin stuff .. stuff that you'd find at home depot .. i was the manager of the place and had to open up every mornin and lockup every night .. we had trucks that would go out everyday and had to account for all the inventory and the warehouse was such a mess .. i had to fight with the owner to get some racks to put everything on .. he would just throw everything in a big pile and now go find it .. it was just a mountain of boxes and most of em were almost round cause they had been kicked around so much you couldn't stack em up anymore.. i never saw anything like it in my life .. so i slowly set out to make the place workable and little by little i did .. but i had a bunch of young guys workin there who had done it wrong for so long they didn't like me tellin em how to do it right.. i even hired a few people and two of em were black and that upset everybody .. what was i thinkin anyway hire a black guy ?? they turned out to be the best two guys i had .. and after about 4 months it started lookin like a warehouse .. you could find things and stuff wasn't gettin busted from bein stepped on .. and you didn't have to go outside to change your mind .. but the grumblin never stopped .. from everybody .. why do we have to do this like this we never had to do it like this before ?? well you do now .. finally the owner said ya know everything is workin pretty well now and i don't think i can afford to keep you and he let me go.. i couldn't get out of that place fast enough .. i thought he wasn't payin me enough as it was .. when the alarm would go off in the middle of the night i was the one who had to go and let the police in time and time again .. and they'd always say you go first we'll follow you .. got to be a runnin joke .. i'd say gimme your gun and i will which of course they wouldn't so in they went first .. and the first time they came they were trippin over sh** in the dark.. but by the 4th or 5th time it was gettin easier and easier to get around without fallin over sh** and each time they'd turn on the lights they'd say whoa .. you're really cleanin this place up ..anyway fast forward 6 months and i'm back in jersey and i call the owner up to tell him where to send my income tax stuff from the year and the guy offers me my job back .. i told him no thanks i had a job already and i was back in jersey and din't wanna come back to new york .. ( i had moved back to jersey to get away from this girl i was seein .. long story ) he asked what i was makin now .. i told him it was more than he was payin me .. i used before and after pictures of his warehouse on my first interview as my resume and they hired me on the spot .. he offered to double what i was makin now and pay for my move to come back .. i said no .. i told him i never hated a job so much in my life as your place .. i only stayed because i thought things were gonna turn out different with that girl .. he said if you change your mind to call .. i ain't called yet . i think its pretty safe to say that i won't ..
and you worked for yves st. laurent cresty ?? i think they were up in seacacus weren't they ?? back in 82 when reagan got in and we were livin under that trickle down administration i lost my job and yves st. laurent was one of the places i applied for .i can't remember why i didn't take the job .. i think it was because they either wouldn't pay me enough or they thought i was over qualified and thought as soon as the economy loosens up i'd leave which was probably right .. and after what you just said i'm sure i woulda .. but what if i had ?? did you have anything to do with the warehouse ?? i'm pretty sure thats what i went there for . it was either that or scheduling or inventory control .. i can't remember now .. who knows we coulda ended up workin together had i taken it ..
Yup. Secaucus! Whoa. Small world, for sure. At least my ex got lots of nice suits at a discount while I worked there.
Actually, I think my job was connected to the warehouse. I remember liking the warehouse guys better than the coked out beautiful young women I worked with. One said hold on cause she like to drive fast one day when we all went to lunch--through Secaucus. I found out a year later that she died in a car accident--decapitated. I swear to God! So much for driving fast.
the warehouse could be a lot of fun cresty. ask me how i know .. ever get to go for a ride on a forklift ?? the place i worked when reagan got in i was the inventory control supv. and before that i was the work in process supv .. and i was also the safety manager so i had to qualify everyone on the forklifts before they could drive em .. i was an osha certified forklift instructor .. one year clark forklifts had a forklift rodeo down the elizabeth port not far from newark airport .. i'm not sure how many guys participated but it was hundreds ..i took 3rd place for the state of new jersey .. not bad considerin i competed on a type of forklift i never drove before ..it took me 3 events to get the feel of the thing and i dropped 7 points on them .. didn't lose any points for the next 7 .. i think they gave me a hat .. if i had won i woulda got a trip to compete in the nationals in california i think it was .. but nope .. i got a hat .. but still , workin in the warehouse could be a blast sometimes .. i'll bet you woulda loved it .. we probably woulda got in some trouble tho ..
Lot's of places to hide in a warehouse , maybe even a little hanky panky for some people ....
Early in my Pathetic working career . I got a job in a small furniture shop . I showed up for work . In part i worked in has sawdust ankle deep . So bad ya could hardly stand up in it . I had to use bathroom . On the walls of bathroom . Were a couple inches of tobacco juice . Nastiest place i ever worked . Another place i worked . I got pissed at boss man and quit . Went to another place and went to work that same morning . By dinner time i quit and went back to previous job . Boss man said i knew you would be back . They worked my ass off at that other job , something i wasn't used too ...My last job i had lasted 25 years . It was the most rude people i ever worked with . My Owner (Boss man) was a good man but i went thru hell if he was pissed off for something . Took me several years before people there to respect me somewhat . Still have night mares from that job ....
All of my jobs were office jobs and most of them were with nice people so we had fun along with the work, there were a few that could be irritating from time to time. One place that I worked as Office Mgr. I had some experiences that made me furious because the owner was so unfair in his treatment of the employees I managed. The straw that broke the camels back was He personally did a quote for a big job that cost the company a lot of money because he made some big errors in his quote process. When the company lost money that year we were excluded from the Christmas Party and Bonus. The owners had about 7 companies so the Christmas party was combined. The owner basically blamed everyone else for his blunder and we paid for it. I started sending out resumes as soon as I heard about the party cancellation for us. I had an interview and was hired to start at the first of the year at another company that paid double what I was making so he really did me a favor in the long run. I did get a call back 6 months later begging me to come back, they said they would match my new salary. Ha ha...no freaking way. That bad job I worked only 1 1/2 years, my shortest employment period.
I guess I have been lucky. I have liked very job I've had. I did work at the Phillips plant in Deer Park that had a huge explosion in '89. It killed 29 employees. I quit the next day. The job I have now I've had since 2000 and I love it, just hate the comute. Gee, I've woked since I was 16, I'm looking forward to retirement!!
I wasn't crazy about waitressing, which is what I did while I was in school. It worked for my school schedule and I made good tips. I did learn I didn't want to get into the food service business. I did it for three years.
I had a job I really hated. I started divorce proceedings after 2 1/2 years.
