The real-life existence of a forest-dwelling altruistic bandit definitely seems more plausible then a legendary king with a magical sword. However, the historical manhunt for the real-life Robin Hood has turned up entire scrolls of possibilities. Candidates include a fugitive in Yorkshire by the name of Robert Hod, who went by Hobbehod as well as a Robert Hood of Wakefield. The list of suspects was also complicated by the name "Robin Hood" eventually becoming synonymous with being an outlaw. His identity would later get murkier as the tales' authors wove more characters such as Prince John and Richard the Lionheart into the story.

Yes, it would seem the legend of Robin Hood is on a par with King Arthur. Feel good stories for ordinary folks? Where would we be without a bit of good overcoming evil?

In The last movie I saw on the subject Russell Crowe was Robin Hood. There is also good evidence for Kevin Costner, John Derek and Sean Connery.

I thought about that P.A., along with Cary Ewell? But I believe Richard Greene was the real Robin Hood.

You're both wrong, it was Erroll

Erroll Flynn was the Robin Hood o my heart. He was , also, my Earl of Essex.

Trish, aka Marion and Elizabeth?

I have too agree about Erroll but to me he will always be Captain Blood. I am not sure the same person can be two legendary heroes.
On a totally different subject, sort of. In my 40 years as a high school and college teacher I had lots of famous people including one Robin Hood, two Jesse James' two Larry Birds, one Carol Burnett, two Michael Jacksons, and one Tommy Jefferson. There were other lesser knows as well like Rachel Jackson.

Even rogues turn altruistic. Thank you very interesting thought.

How about Roger Godberd - not a very nice man?

Good article. Godberd would appear to be a good candidate.

That is a good article about Godberd.

Every one knows Robin Hood was a '50's TV show starring Richard Greene.
