At 7:55 a.m. Pacific Time, a cloud of some 360 Japanese war planes descends on the naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. A preemptive action intended to cripple U.S. naval power in the Pacific to allow the Japanese Empire a free hand in Southeast Asia, the surprise attack is an unparalleled disaster in American history and a crushing blow to the Pacific Fleet, which included 2,402 servicemen killed and another 1,282 wounded, and the sinking of four battleships, three destroyers and three cruisers. "A Day that will Live in Infamy".

Truly a day to remember. I am a huge fan of The Waltons and there is an episode about that day. It shows the reaction of a family and a small community to the news on the radio. It gives you a feeling of how it affected a nation and a rural community.
