TBD

TBD on Ning

I've been driving around the Knoxville area of East Tennessee, taking in the sights and playing tourist. It dawned on me today that it would be much more fun if I had someone other than Happy to talk to about what we are seeing and doing.

So I thought "maybe I should try to find a girl friend to travel with me. Then, I thought, Or maybe a guy who I got along with. But those type experiences are always fraught with peril.

Then it hit me!!! I have an RV, I travel wherever and whenever. I like people. I can usually get along with about anybody for a week or two. How about if I offered to take people wherever they wanted to go.  I have been up and down the Eastern Coast from Key West, Fl to Houlton, Maine. I have been to Colorado, Arizona, Maine and most places in between. What if I offered one or two week trips to others. We could go wherever they wanted. Or they could just ride along with me.

This idea would take a lot of thought and planning before it could be brought to fruition. The first thing would be to check out insurance. Would I need a commercial dirivers license? I don't think it would if I was just shareing cost with friends. Probably would if I was advertising. would the Sleeping and bath areas be adequate? and on.

What do you think? Give me some ideas. Is this something that might work or is it something that no one would even consider?

Meanwhile, Here are some pictures that I took today and last week.

Here is where they extracted the U235 that was used in "Little Boy" the atom bomb that we dropped on Hiroshima.

Here I am managing the facility.

What about my idea? do you think it has any potential?

What question would you have?

Yeah, do I get to drive?
How quick can you get to Maine? It's cooling off up here and I haven't been to Bangor in forever.
could do it as a cost shareing. Or I could meet you  at the destination. i can stay in RV parks at most areas for a cost of from $17 to $60 a night. Cheaper if staying for a week or month. Depending on location, season and amenities. My RV is self contained, so I have all the normal living facilities such as heat, A/C, stove, bath/shower, fridge, TV, Couch, dinette, toilet, Lav. Queen bed and convertable couch. Can set up about anywhere that I can drive it too.
My driveway is your driveway if that's any help.

Great pics!!!  I do live a little vicariously through your travels.

Your offer...is it one way?

Depends on where you want to go. For example: I'm currently in Knoxville, TN. You, I think are in Grand Rapids, Michigan. If you wanted to go to Miami, FL.  I could meet you in Orlando.  I say Orlando because that is the cheapest place in the US to fly into and out of. For me that is about 650 mi. @7 mi to the gal. and $3.50 a gal. that would cost me about $323. If I wanted to make a trip to FL. I would think that 25% of my cost to you would be fair. = about $80.   It is about 225 mi. from Orlando to Miami. @ 7 mi to the gal. and $3.50 a gal. it would cost about $115 each way.  I can probably find a RV park in the Miami area for about $35 a night.  Maybe $200 a week.  If I want to, I can eat very well for no more than $10 a day. If I want to eat out; it's what ever I'm willing to spend. It would be the same for you.

So, lets see.

Your cost for a week in Miami. would be: $80 for me to get to Olando, +$230 gas to Miami and back. .  $150 for one week camp site.  $100 for food. plus I would use my car to haul you/us around the area. = $150

Total = 80+230+ 150 +100+i50=  $710

So, A week in Miami would cost you $710 plus airfare to Orlando and back.

Now lets say that I really wanted to meet Stir and you wanted to spend a week in the Leelanau. I would charge you only for gas to the Leelanau and back. Plus 1/2 of whatever we had to pay for a site. If we sat in his driveway I would charge only for the gas I had to use to run the generator to run the electric stuff in the RV.  Or 1/2 of the cost of a site.  1 week @$200 = $100 to you.

So you might get by for $70+$150 + food @70 = $290 so you get a week in the Leelanau with Stir and I for company for less than $300.  WHAT A BARGAIN!!!

Haven't even left yet and I'm exhausted.  :-)
and I did all the work.
I'll pay for all the gas, if you pay for all the beer.
That might work. Unless we just sit in your driveway. considering the amount of beer the two of us can drink, the gas would be cheaper.

WOW!!

That got way too complicated way to fast.

I'll just post where I'm going next and anybody that wants to come along can let me know.

Of course right now I'm commited to stay here in the Knoxville area until the end of August.

Do they still do that?
