I heard an ad on the radio today that made me smile. I don't even remember what it was for, just that it talked about someone in their 50's needing something for a problem. Well, my 50's and even 60's weren't too bad. I had a touch of arthritis, but I still managed to do all I had before. It wasn’t till I hit my 70’s that things started going downhill. An x-ray showed severe arthritis in my back–which, strangely, actually shows up in my buttocks. And by then I also had arthritis in both knees. The left knee was the worst at first. Anyway, I did some PT and brought home several pages of exercises for me to do at home. I’m still doing most of them many years later.

Earlier this year, the arthritis in my right knee got worse. I suddenly had bouts of severe pain. I had put off asking my doctor about the ‘shot’, thinking it would be painful. Well, I finally gave in when he asked if I wanted it: yes. Surprisingly, geting the shot was pain-free. And for over two months, I had zero pain in that knee! The normal pain in left knee still isn’t bad. It’s now been 4 months and I have ‘normal’ pain in the right knee–and so far, only 2 bouts of bad pain. I can live with that. If/when it gets worse, I’ll go back for another shot.

I won’t even bother going into the other numerous things wrong with me. Meds are keeping things level for now. And I’ve never been vain, so the one thing that shows doesn’t really bother me.

I now use a cane or walker around the house. My ‘exercise’ consists of walking around the house–one full round is 100 steps; I do that once a day. And I make at least 4-5 rounds at a time, of walking to the front door and back. That’s 60 steps each time. I don’t go out much. Once a month to the grocery to stock up. And once a month to Walmart for my OTC items. And of course, doctor appointments. Two heart doctors and my family doctor. But I’m doing ok. I think being creative helps keep my brain active. As long as that’s ok, I am fine.

I’m working on my 3^rd novella. I’ll keep writing as long as I can! And of course, I’ll keep making ‘graphic comments’ that I post online.
