Ahem - sorry Mark, everyone - rather a long winded "comment"! I do hope you let it stand.

You go girlfriend! Cyndromeda is correct. The woeful ignorance of many an American as to how the Canadian Health care system works has often left me shaking my head in utter disbelief. I'm a duel citizen, who pays taxes in both countries (quelle fun) and who has spent more than 32 years of her adult life living in Canada. I had three (very) successful business of my own, the last of which employees fifty people. (So please don't bang on to me about the evils of "socialism" and the destruction thereby of free enterprise, as I started each business with less than 5 or ten grand and not one bank loan.)

I held nine people in total as they died in my arms in Toronto, including my beloved mother, my aunt, and my step-father (fortunately not all at once ;0). I myself have been in hospital several times. EVERY SINGLE one of us, and I will include ALL of my many friends and acquaintances, had the best of the best of care. Quickly. With little to no out of pocket personal expenses, other than certain types of home care, and private room - all easily affordable to all thru Blue Cross et al - if one wishes to have funds for the extra niceties.

Please. Stop the idiotic Canada bashing unless you know EXACTLY what you are talking about. And don't drag out the propaganda. Been there heard all that nonsense. Unless you have walked the talk, paid the taxes, built a business, and experienced the relief it is to work and succeed and in a country where you are not in fear for your life - you have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about!

I'm back in the states after so many years away, and it's barbaric what is going on. And VERY frightening. AND outrageously expensive. I'm looking at a bloody 5 grand deductible ! Ridiculous!!!! People are AFRAID! And a fearful people, is a recipe for disaster as they are open to internal manipulation - which leads to internal discord, which can cripple a country very quickly and leave it ripe for external intervention. We need to get our act together as a nation and find a way to provide affordable health care for all (esp. our children - our future!) and stop bickering over ideologies most can't even understand!

poor geezer... not to flame but rather inform...
there is no welfare state of free healthcare for all in the works. i really hate to inform you of that. i know your anger rides on it.
at the moment even a public option of government sponsored insurance is what is even being fought for. this means you would still pay for your insurance.
btw, why the ire toward canada. have you ever talked to a canadian? do you know anything about their system, aside from the propaganda fox news spews? they pay taxes toward it - then they have a visa type card that they use to pay their (gasp) private doctors. but, guess what - this is not even remotely in the works for us, so don't get your panties in a bunch.

Save me from those who have their minds set in steel.
Steel by its nature is grey, unyielding, and barren….. Cold.

The other networks had a extreme amount of favorable coverage for Obama and an extreme amount of negative coverage for McCain, esp Sarah Pallin.

Um, yeah. In case you hadn't noticed, the candidates contributed to the nature of the sound bites that aired. Few rational people found the specter of Sarah Palin encouraging Joe the Plumber and all his friends toward racist hatred and condemnation of the opposing candidate as the anti-Christ as favorable.

They couldn't really. They had ratings to consider.

When Fox News arrived on the scene, Dante rolled in his grave and regretted adding at least one more level to Hell.

the problem is that since we have several news channels that run 24/7, news is now entertainment. while all stations have some bias, it is no secret that fox is pure propaganda. i, personally, will not watch any of the news networks. how about someone actually reporting (and being allowed to report) the news. i don't need some unqualified person's analysis of current events.
