My father was a Lieutenant in the Navy in WWII, and was separated from my mother for years during the war. Mommy used to sing this to herself in later years when Daddy was at sea, remembering those early days of their marriage and reminding herself that, even though they were parted, Daddy would come home again.
This version is very dear to me.
