Enough with the history reenactments

Here's the headline in my local newspaper:

Reenactors Set to recreate the burning of Norwalk.

Here we go again. My city was apparently the site of a minor battle during the Revolutionary War where British soldiers burnt a bunch of buildings. This weekend a group of history reenactors will recreate the battle.

I've had enough of these people. What's the matter the paint ball facility all booked up this weekend? Is the Patriot all sold out at Blockbuster? All they're going to do is set fire to a few pieces of cardboard using Zippo lighters and hold an 18th century church service afterward - in a church built in the 20th century. If they really want to reenact history then why leave out the fun stuff like raping and pillaging? What's the point of role-playing if there isn't some sex involved?

You're all really annoying and I wish you would use live ammo.

I just love the idea of slave reenactments. Imagine how horrified the town folk would be if every year a group of black people donned chains, ripped pants, and picked cotton for a few hours. The masters could them come in and beat them up for authenticity. Actually, you don't even have to go back that far, just reenact the sixties. Imagine a bunch of African-American reenactors staging the Selma beatings with police dogs, and fire hoses? It sounds like a great "Borat" type stunt.

Grace you are so funny. I went to one of those Civil War reenactments last year, well it realy was 2 different reenactments in 1 day. This first one was on a battle field. Now, don't get me wrong, I do like history but, and there is always a "but". Those people are nuts!!! I'm just a misplaced yankee living in the heart of rebell territory.

Reenactments do serve their purpose when they remind us why wars were fought and how we have what we have today, as a result. Too bad we never learned the lessons and history just keeps repeating itself.

You are just so lucky, you have no idea! There are freaking Civil War reenactments every fifteen yards every other day where I live. I would one like to see a reenactment of some slaves doing something, while the lily white folks sit on a porch drinking ice tea.
