Dr Dean Ornish Says, "Our Genes Are Not Our Fate"

There has been much discussion about disease being "hereditary". In this short video, Dr Dean Ornish says we can change our genes by changing our lifestyles:
• eat healthier
• manage our stress
• exercise
• love more

These activities will increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain. Eating blueberries can make your brain grow new brain cells and reverse heart disease. You won't age as fast, either.

You are how you live.

{...}Speaking of "immature disruptive behavior"..
"All right Quin and Monkey pants, did you watch the video or are you just being negative without doing any research on your own? etc. and " had I known your situation I would have responded to your
comments in a more sensitive appropriate manner." {...}

I prefer not to see my longtime and very intelligent and thoughtful good friends on TBD intellectually dissed and their feelings dismissed "Firedawg". Esp. by a "new person" (less than 72 hours) who conveniently hides himself from any form of public scrutiny. If you had been considerate of other peoples feelings from the get go here and elsewhere, rather than condescending and hurtful, you would not have incurred my ire. People who do this sort of thing right from the start are considered to be trolls. This is a social network, not a dictatorship. People try and share, esp. when it concerns personal medical issues - as you did more considerately - albeit after the fact.

As it is a social network (and not a venue for constant business self-promotion), people will also disagree and argue with one another. It's not a one way street - which so often seems to be the case whenever OCND posts a blog. No opposing comments or opinions are tolerated and treated with respect. I am not alone in this opinion.

Although this particular video lecture of Dr. Ornish is not one of my favourites (it does not do his ideas full justice) I happen to find his ground breaking work in cardiovascular care and recovery of great interest. He has my respect. When insurance companies sit up and take notice (as they did in the early nineties) of alternate forms of post-recovery care, it's time to listen closely. He has been on the cutting edge of legitimate alternative medical modalities, operating within the scientific community with integrity, for more than thirty years.

" Pain in every buddy's ass? " throwing your dumb ass ignorant opinions in other peoples business?" "as I look around this site you and your suck ass groupies are the only ones trying to screw up every one else's mature adult interaction. I don't know why anyone puts up your with immature disruptive behavior? "

Good way to make new friends and influence people here Firedawg. And in case you are not aware, your words reflect directly back at OCND. Show me your friends, and indeed I will show you who you are - so the saying goes. Good luck with your attitude. Oh, and you can count on my having the back of my "groupies" (LoL) here if you are disrespectful and unkind to any of them again. That's what friends are for.

I wouldn't take the remarks of "Firedawg" "Romulan Warrior" and "Joe Underpants" too seriously folks. LOL! They all appeared as new members - most conveniently yesterday to tackle Me and TobyRow and anyone else who dares to NOT AGREE! All three are set to private profiles, all three have "send comment" deleted, and all three of them sound exactly the same.

Now - checking the IP address of all three would be interesting.

Gee! Suddenly three new "best friends" for OCND from out of the total blue to defend her and criticize others for their opinions AND who can get away with calling people names ( as Romulan Warrior did to me and TobyRow by calling us "trailer trash" ) !!! LoL!

Think we were all hatched yesterday? Like these trolls? In hiding? Pffft. Ignore them. Carry on!

Or - no wait - perhaps if we "love them" any genetic predilection we might have to any disease will miraculously disappear!!! I call for a love in! Quick everyone . . . GROUP HUG!!!

I'm not being negative, I'm being reasonable and, given my family history I am up to date on research concerning genetics...I don't have to watch the video to know this guy is only trying to sell me something!
You can do things to improve your health, we all know that, but you cannot change your genes. Exercise and "loving more" and eating healthy are not going to eliminate the blood disease that runs in my family and kills unborn babies, okay? Trust me on that one. Same with the cancer...I'm pretty certain that nothing my brother could have done would have prevented him from getting Hogkins disease...

I'm going to have to disagree with Dr Ornish, guess he'll have to sell his book to someone else. Blood diseases can't be "changed". Cancer can't be "changed". How do you "change" a birth defect...Downs Syndrome, Autism?????
Who falls for this crap?
