,,,,,Crosby, Stills, Nash and Svensson.
Well Brothers and Sisters, as you may or may not know, today is Neil Young's birthday. Ol' Shakey is now sixty-six!
What a storied career the guy has had....whether playing by himself, or with his numerous bands, or when he was in the mega-group, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
Ah yes, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young....what a supergroup that was.....four giant egos (OK, maybe only three and a half) coming together for a brief, brief time, to produce huge, mega-music for a generation now starting to draw Social Security. Their music defined us, I say.
What you may have never been aware of, Brothers and Sisters, is that this great assemblege of super talent was also refered to by a slightly different name back in the day. They were known as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Svensson.
Let me elaborate.
You see, back when I was in high school (1962-1965), I mentioned to a couple of my friends, that in the Old Country, Sweden, my paternal grandfather's name was Erick Svensson. As the story goes, his name was changed to Ljung when he was in the Swedish Army, and anglized to Young when he came to America. Well, as you can imagine, after releasing that kind of information to highschoolmates, I started being called Svensson, or Sven. Occasionally, I still answer to those names, although several other nicknames also came along over the years.
Along about 1969, when Crosby Stills and Nash started releasing music, and Neil Young joined them for awhile, one of my friends ( I can't recall which friend, now, but it might have been Nake) started referring to the expanded group as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Svensson. My cronies and I got a big kick out of that.
Time moved on....as quickly as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young came together, they were gone. The adding of my old country family surname to the group in place of Young was probably quickly forgotten by most of my friends. We came up with plenty more nicknames for each other over the years.
Today, what with it being Neil Young's birthday, I remembered that old bit of nonsense from back when I had a full head of blond hair.....I was in the band, I tell ya!
And now, in honor of Neil Young's birthday, may I present Crosby, Stills, Nash and Svensson, I mean, Young, performing "Down by the River".

The quality of that particular clip wasn't the best, Robbie.
Neil Young has always been one of my favorites. However, I remember the C,S&N&Y sounding much better than they did in that clip.
Hiya Q!
Back in the heyday of CS&Nand CSN&Y I was mostly listening to traditional country music. I came to appreciate CSN& especially Neil Young quite a bit later. I've been posting Neil Young songs throughout the day on FB. I like to sing along in the high quavering Neil Young voice. "Hey, hey, my, my....rock and roll will never die....." ;-0
