I started seeing a new psychiatrist a few weeks ago. I like him a lot. He's a fourth-year resident in psychiatry, affiliated with St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, DC.
Dr. Jama was a clinical research fellow in the lab of Todd Gould, MD, at the University of Maryland Medical School. You can reach Dr. Gould at 410-706-5585 or email him at tgould@psych.umaryland.edu
Dr. Gould's lab uses molecular, cellular, and behavioral approaches to study the pharmacology of psychotropic medications in rodents in the hope of illuminating their translation to the underlying pathophysiology of psychiatric illness. His lab's research has a particular focus on the study of novel antidepressants and mood stabilizers. The lab is also interested in the development of improved animal models for applications to psychiatry, the functional consequences of mood disorder susceptibility genes, and collaborative translational studies with clinically focussed research groups.
I need to make the most of my year with Dr. Jama. He will be completing his residency at the end of June, 2010, and I will then be assigned to another psychiatrist.
