Harvey Daniels was Staffing Manager at the American Medical Association (until his position and 100 others were very recently eliminated in a major reduction in force), and also has a leadership role in the Technical Recruiters Network (Chicago) and the Global Technical Recruiters Network (the World). He has been involved with the field of Human Resources and Recruitment for a long time (when asked to be more specific, he just twitches, holds his head steady with his hand, and says "just long, ok?" However, it has been revealed that his involvement in the field has been since 1975.)
Harvey received his Bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University and his MBA from DePaul University, both in Human Resource Management. He has taught in the MBA program at DePaul as well (part-time, after work).
Harvey has previously worked for the Federal Reserve and IBM. He says that while he's been very fortunate to work for top quality employers, the AMA, where he has been since 1996, is exceptional with outstanding opportunities and the greatest co-workers, despite recent personal developments (so who needs to be reminded that he's in recruitment, right?).
Harvey has been involved with "heavy-duty networking" since 1985, since the birth of the Technical Recruiters Network, and has worked tirelessly with his colleagues who have served the mission and each other to build and maintain a supportive "community" dedicated to helping facilitate mutual successes. He has also been instrumental in the "startup" of other TRN organizations across the country, and most notably, with the formation and development of the Global Technical Recruiters Network, chartered in 2002 as a "unity facilitator" of Recruiters Networks across the world. And while the original impact may have been "technical," the evolution has included a wide variety of disciplines in addition to technical disciplines.
When he's not networking, he's sleeping. However, he does find time to work out every day, and in the summer he can be seen most mornings along the Chicago lakefront on his blades (he says he prefers the lakefront because it's so crowded it helps him to stop more effectively). He's also a "self-proclaimed" rock star, playing bass and singing in the rock band the Sleepless Knights (not yet seen on VH-1, but just keep watching, he says).
Interests:
Building full-scale suspension bridges, denying the existance of sarcasm, networking, helping others to achieve their career and professional aspirations, (until recently) actively contributing to obtaining and retaining the greatest, most effective, and most intelligent co-workers at the AMA, blading, working out, and actively working to maintain a "community" that supports "win-win" opportunities. I'm also working hard to develop a sense of humor, which I hope to obtain soon.
Groups and Associations:
Technical Recruiters Network (TRN), Business Network Chicago (BNC), nPower Networking Chicago, MediaBistro, Kellogg (Northwestern University) Interview Advisory Group, Networking for a Cause, Go Green Management, the Chicago Non-Profit Association, Staffing Managers Association (SMA), Human Resource Management Association of Chicago (HRMAC), the Society for Human Resource Professionals (SHRP), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and the Sleepless Knights Rock Band.
