Sure, I have advice. The only way I would go in graphics is interactive (Flash) web design with knowledge of how to keep the website up and also SEO. Most of this is very technical but that is where the future of design is...all on the web. It's great to have a design degree but i have been out of work for almost a year now, and if I had more of a technical background, I would not only be employed, but doing very well.
that's the ugly truth..there is no money let alone no work for basic graphic designers like what I have done for 25 years. It's fun and if she just can't see herself doing anything else, maybe have her learn web/interactive and then freelance design on the side.

I'd be more than happy to email her if she'd rather. I know when I was younger..i certainly didn't listen to anyone telling me that something wasn't a good idea. LOL Just let her know how not fun being broke is....and this isn't the first time..after 9/11 the same problem finding work.
