David sitting next to Viviane in Dr. Parson’s office watched her fidgeting and rubbing her forehead as she sat in her chair.
“What are you so nervous about honey? You are the one that wanted to make this appointment and see the doctor today. Are you changing your mind? Something seems to be bothering you. What is it?”
“I just don’t feel right being away from my job for a whole week and Carter hasn’t complained to me at all. You don’t suppose he has removed me from the job?” Viviane showed a worried face as she turned to look at him.
“C’mon now. Of course not. What in the world gave you that idea? He’s not what you think he is. He told you he’s giving you all the time in the world to feel good, remember? He mentioned that to you when he visited you in the hospital.”
“Oh, I see now you’ve turned the cards on the table and are defending him? First you didn’t like him and now you’re his buddy? What brought that on?” Viviane said haughtily. “I didn’t realize you two had bonded.”
“Now don’t be that way. It’s just that I didn’t get to tell you that when we were in the hospital, we went for coffee and he told me some things that made me see him in a different light, that’s all. Sometimes a person pretends to be what he’s not just to cover-up what he really is hiding.” David answered.
“So, what did you discover of him that made you change your mind so drastically?” Viviane answered still seeming upset.
“I don’t know why you’re being so upset, honey. It was just a conversation between guys. What is it that’s bothering you so much?” David looked at her with more concern. He hadn’t seen her get so uppity since he had decided to marry and she had stormed out of the classroom in high school where he had mentioned it to her.
“Oh don’t mind me, darling, I guess I have been sitting around the house for so long that I just have become antsy and that has made me nervous and apprehensive. Had too much time to think about that house and what’s going on in there. That experience that I had and that nobody else has seen and was never verified has made me constantly wonder if I’m losing my mind. Then after I got hit that night, I’m beginning to believe it’s made my reasoning worse. I’ve been trying to remember what I saw before I got that whack on the head and for the life of me I can’t remember very much. This torments me, David.” Viviane looked at him with an unhappy and troubled face.
“Come on now honey.” David leaned over and put his arm around her. “Remember what the doctor said to you? It will take some time. You developed a slight retrograde memory from the hit and you just can’t let that keep worrying you. I know it will come back soon. Just give it some time okay? It will resolve itself.”
“Oh David, I don’t know what I would do without you. I’m so happy we’re together. You are so level headed and make me see this in a calmer way but why can’t you explain to me about the vision I had? Do you believe that I saw it? Or are you just trying to make me feel at ease?” She wanted an answer as she looked directly into his eyes trying to find a solution to her questioning.
“What I think is that you shouldn’t be going over that part so much inside your head. Maybe because you were frightened that you heard someone speaking to you, which could have been your imagination, you imagined there was someone at the door also. Fear can make you imagine and hear things that aren’t really there. You just don’t know. It could have been just a shadow. That’s why I wouldn’t worry about it so much. Try not to think about it so much and maybe then it might all come back to you. Right now you’re forcing you memory to bring that back and your memory is probably not ready yet.” David smiled at her.
Viviane looked at David and placed her head on his shoulder. “I guess you are right my dear.” She said releasing a big sigh.
The door to the doctor’s office opened suddenly and the nurse asked them to step inside. David helped Viviane and they both began to go in the room. Dr. Parson was sitting behind his desk writing something on a piece of paper that was in front of him. He raised his head as they approached.
“Well how have you both been? He began with a smile. “Please take a seat here in front.”
“Viviane, what seems to be bothering you? I see it on your face.” He questioned looking at her. “You’re scar has healed and the psychological tests we took the other day show that you are in a good mental state. There are no other bad results from the hit that you had on your head. No more concerns with a concussion follow-up either, so you see you are as good as new and can go about your business as usual. So what is bothering you now, my dear?”
“I guess I just feel so unsure of myself, doctor. I had a lot of time to think and this probably has placed me in a position to ask some questions to myself that I can’t find the answer to them.” Viviane replied with a worried face.
“Well, why don’t you tell me about them right now?” Dr. Parson answered.
“It’s that I feel what I saw before my concussion at Mr. Henderson’s attic has lingered inside me, even after I got hit on the head. How come I can remember this and some other things I cannot? I have tried to accept what they have told me. That I was imagining things but I wasn’t. I know I wasn’t. This is what my mind is constantly fighting against me.”
“You must understand that probably you had reverted to fear. Thinking that you were hearing things or seeing things when they really weren’t there. Let me explain. Usually when fear takes over our senses and we feel something will attack us, our eyes begin to play tricks on us. Then our mind shuts down and allows us, for protection’s sake, to imagine that in a mere shadow we can distinguish a person or thing, when in reality it is not there. The same thing happens to our hearing. We begin to hear noises and even think we hear voices when they are not there. This all stems from being very afraid.” Dr. Parson said.
Viviane stared at him looking perplexed. “I didn’t feel I was afraid.” She looked at David with pleading eyes.
“David took her hand and held it tight. “I think we should listen to Dr. Parson’s theory honey. I think you should stop worrying and forget it ever happened. After all, nothing has really become of it and what happened to you at my beach house was probably someone trying to steal my car and you stopped him when you showed up. You just got in his way, darling, that’s all.” David answered trying to reassure her.
“I think it will do you good to start thinking of going back to your job.” Dr. Parson interrupted. “This will make you forget such things because you will be busy thinking of other problems that have to be resolved, right?” He smiled at Viviane.
“Yes doctor. I think that will be a good thing for me. Thank you. I will put all those silly ideas out of my head and just concentrate on what I have to do to finish the mansion.”
Viviane then got up from her chair and leans over the desk to shake Dr. Parsons hand. Thank you so much for all you’ve done for me. I really appreciate it, doctor.”
David also gets up and Dr. Parson escorts them to the door. “I’m glad things have turned out so well for you, Viviane.” Parson smiled as they walked out from his office.
Viviane turned to David while they kept walking. “Please take me to my apartment honey. I have to change and then head for the house and talk with Carter. I’m sure by now he must be antsy for me to finish his decorating and he can live in peace without all the commotion we have given him.”
They leave the doctor’s office and walk towards the car.

So many mysteries in one story! Will they all tie together, or, is Vivianne's memory playing tricks on all of us? Hmmm ... I suspect that there be good writing going on here. However, my popcorn supply is quickly diminishing, time to go to the store. What's that figure by my door? Oh, my, NO!
