BROOKLYN LANDMARK CLOSING

How sad. !! Our struggling economy has forced the closing of a legendary manufacturer. Since the late 1700's , the Mevorach Building in the Williamsburgh section of Brooklyn,NY will be closing its doors. Dedicated workers there will no longer be making their world recognized products and accolade given awards to their expertise and crafting perfection...the mezuzah.

Rising prices of mezuzah materials like wood, ceramics, stone, pewter,and polymer clay have caused mezuzah production to cease here in Brooklyn. Ignatz Rosenberg, a spokesman for the IMF,(International Mezuzah Federation), has said the demand for mezuzahs is substantially less than the supply. It's just simple economics. With prices of mezuzahs dropping like potato pancakes and rock bottom discounts,the workers can no longer get compensated anymore for their skilled toiled and labor. The incredible art work at the doors of homes all over the world will no longer be supplied by the Mevorach Building. .

The good news is every effort will be made according to Ignatz in placing the mezuzah workers at a matzoh or yarmulke factory in nearby Borough Park in Brooklyn where their talents will continue to deliver exceptional products. But,"yarmulkes and mezuzahs are like oranges and apples", a factory worker was quoted whose family has worked making mezuzahs for over five generations. "It's a different animal", he said adding,"it's just not Kosher."

What a sad thing that companies so old and reputable have to close because of the change in our economy. It happened to us here in Chicago when the 200 year old department store called Marshall Field also went under. 

So does that mean no more mezuzahs?
