Valetudes are rather small bovinish agropods native to Portugal. A valetudinarian is a sort of caretaker for them – like a shepherd.
Merriam-Webster says it's "a person of a weak or sickly constitution; especially : one whose chief concern is his or her ill health."
My mother used it to describe her Aunt Laura, a woman who retired from her job as postmistress in her 40s due to ill health (a bad heart), and died at the age of 97.
"The Valetudes" was an ancient epic poem, written by Homer. A valetudinarian is a scholar of this work.
Did I win?
valedictory platitudes?
How about, (new word): FLOCCULATE
Well, I don’t know the definition – but I can use it in a sentence:
My daddy said “Son…your gonna drive me to drinkin’ if you don’t stop flocculatin’ that hot rod Lincoln”…
Ya baby!
Your dad was right. If you were driving that hot rod Lincoln to pieces.
flocculate = to form into small lumps or masses.
Ha! I used to do that to my little brother...
