“Wine is a many splendored thing”… as is also nachos.

But we won’t be reviewing nachos here – however, I do have a spectacular recipe for nachos – unlike anything you’ve ever had before…and can make you an instant culinary deity at your next Confirmation, Bar Mitzvah, or Fifty Shades of Gray discussion group.

Trust me…I’m good at this. (I have a degree!)

And so here it is…the wine ‘o the week…

“Stark Raving Red” from Rosenblum Cellars, Sonoma California. It’s a nice red blended table wine, that tastes good in my mouf – and it contains sulfites! (another plus!)

The label is interesting – somewhat reminiscent of that Allstate Insurance “Mayhem Guy” commercials. Not that I’m particularly swayed by creative labeling (I tried “Little Black Dress” for obvious reasons…and “Toes” for… well, let’s save that for another discussion), and it’s not anywhere near 2 bucks – it’s actually  closer to ten bucks here in the Bluegrass…mostly because we’re somewhat less sophisticated as a group than y’all in Sonoma and…are easily influenced by purty pitchers.

Not sure if it’s available in New Jersey…but look for it, probably right next to Miller Lite.

When I was in college in the 60s, the beverage of choice at cast parties was Paisano Burgundy, which cost $2.69/gallon and was so disgusting you had to drink a glass before you could stand the taste.  (A conundrum if ever there was one!)

I could not tell definitively if it's still produced.

Oh, I meant to add that you can really tell it's a classy wine if it's sold by the gallon. :-D

I vaguely recall Bali Hai ... High? ... Hi!  ... which was so bad we mixed it with beer and called it a Sneaky Pete ... the vagueness, I am sure, has something to do with my state of mind after quaffing a few. This was at Michigan State, a school also known as "Moo U" due to its humble agricultural beginnings. (I also vaguely recall a student newspaper headline following a reunion of the agriculture graduates: "How are you going to keep them down on the farm after they've seen Moo U?")

And you thought people from New Joisey had no klass!

Mama Goldsteins fortified wine was sweet and syrupy, goes does real easy when you're really young and need a spool full of sugar to make the medicine go down.
