For a truly frightening read on nanobots, #7 on this list, I thoroughly recommend the Michael Chrichton novel Prey. Here is the Amazon synopsis: "In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles—micro-robots—has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive.

It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour.

Every attempt to destroy it has failed.

And we are the prey."

Wow! I already have "Prey" on my Kindle Wish list. Thanks for the push, I just might go ahead and get it now. Crichton was one of my favorites since I read "The Andromeda Strain". He was taken away from us to soon.

I read "Prey" maybe a year ago. A very good book.

It might be interesting to see if we could make up a "must-read" list of stories featuring each of the 10 technologies featured in the video.  "Prey" was an obvious one for me.  AI, number 8 and cyber-terrorism, number 9 have lots of easy to name examples but what would be the ultimate in a good read?

Here is one for #8 AI. A novel from 1966.

The basis of the movie "Colossus: The Forbin Project". I read one of the novel's sequels "The Fall of Colossus". "Colossus" may be out of print by now.

Good one, I read that a long time ago, but never saw the movie.  Apparently Ron Howard is producing a new version starring Will Smith.  It's in the works now.
