TBD on Ning

If the challenges in Survivor: Nicaragua are as physical as past seasons, we're going to have another very one-sided season. Today CBS revealed that the twist for this season of Survivor is that the 20 castaways will be divided into two tribes based on age. One tribe will feature members over 40 while the other will be all kids younger than 30.
This idea might sound interesting at first, but I have little doubt that the young whippersnappers will wipe the floor with the old timers on a rather consistent basis. Sure, Survivor has had a few great older competitors (Tom Westman topping that list), but the physical endurance and adaptability to harsh conditions that Survivor requires are much better suited to young people.
This could be especially true if most of the old people are like former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson. He may be associated with football, but I doubt he's in top physical condition and I suspect he'd lose quickly to anyone under 30 in a physical competition.
On the bright side, while most reality shows cast nothing but young people (the current season of Big Brother's oldest contestant is 40), Survivor isn't afraid to have half its new cast over that age. It's refreshing that Survivor's casting department isn't so heavily obsessed with youth.

The Espada tribe (over 40s) and the La Flor tribe (under 30s) will compete starting Wednesday, September 15 at 8pm. That will be followed by the two-hour finale of Big Brother 12 where the winner will be decided.

Thank god, a season without Russell Hantz at last.
Amen to that Sistah!
There was a rumor about a show that would pit Russell against Rob....can you clear that up Max?
There's no words for the amount of anger I have towards this possibility .
ROFL!
Sorry (not), but so far it's just a rumor. There is talk about these two heading different tribes, but so far nothing written in stone. By now quite a few people are sick of them both.
Not a good idea on any level. I really like Rob, but enough is enough. Put more effort into freshening up Survivor with some better twists, more interesting challenges. Why not start a season off with one tribe competing for individual immunity and then after some alliances get formed, breaking up the group into two tribes?

Top Shot has an interesting twist that would work well with Survivor. The team (tribe) that has the smaller number of members chooses the member(s) from the opposing tribe that have to sit out challenges. I think that would be great for Survivor.

Also, if you want to have three in the final tribal council, why not have everybody on the jury? That might get us some interesting dynamics at the end. More voting alliances and I would get rid of final tribal council all together. Instead have the last couple of elimination challenges done in front of the entire jury so they can see how people try to win.

There are a lot of things that can be done rather than falling back on 'stars.'
Max, dude...I keep hearing those rumors of Russell / Rob next season--please cap this!!!!
This could descend very quickly into celebrity survivor, something Mark Burnett years ago said he would never do.

If indeed Rob & Russell are back again we are only a step away from that. As much as I want to see Rob stomp on evil Russell, I think having cast members that are very famous or well known is a bad idea. How are you going to find the next Russell, Coach, or even Parvati if you keep using the same people over and over?

I think a much more interesting idea would be to put Rob & Russell in Big Brother. Just think of the two of them in a confined space. Now that would be great television.
God forbid BB13 with these two.

Survivor is, for the most part, shielded from being drug down by stunt casting. The format is so tight that even recasting Russell or focusing on a true celebrity should still result in a great season. This is what makes Survivor great as opposed to a show like Big Brother that is entirely dependent on the cast.
