TBD on Ning

Each year a number of popular magazines publish articles about "The Best Places To Live". Their criteria for judging is usually not the same as mine.

If you have been on tbd for very long, you probably know that I live and travel in an RV. See my "ON THE ROAD AGAIN" blogs.

I have recently started thinking about the fact that sometime in the future I will have to cut back on my travel or even pick a place to settle in for the long term.

So, what attributes would the perfect spot have? What would make a place so attractive that I would want to settle there? I have given this quite a bit of thought and have to admit that I have trouble answering this question. Here are some of the things that would be important to me.

1. Must have an intellectually stimulating social environment.

2. Must be affordable

3.  Must have "off leash" dog park or other place for dogs to get exercise and socialize with other dogs.

4. Has Unitarian church or fellowship.

5. Has Nice size river or lake nearby. Or is near Ocean.

7. Has moderate or tropic climate.

What is unacceptable:

1. Area dominated by conservative, evangelical churches that are active in politics.

2. Winters with average temps below 40 degrees.

3. High violent crime rate

What characteristics would your perfect place have?

You got that right, Bob!
I think I could live just about anywhere as long as George, my husband, is there, and he feels the same way about me.
I've found my ideal retirement home.....its right where I am now! I have four distinct seasons, relatively low housing costs, low taxes, a huge body of water about 500 feet from my house. I have plenty of seniors as neighbors, I'm about seven miles from a bank, post office, grocery store, greasy spoon, gas station, yuppie coffee places and bar. I have a lot of cultural stuff around here, which I don't patronize, as I'm a redneck. I am a little far from a doctor, but its only about five minutes for an amblulance to get here. I hope to never have to move.
Quinn/Stir. Sounds like you guy have what most of us are looking for. A place that we really like. I have never been to the places either one of you live. Quinn, I used to drive to and from Northern VA/ DC area to Ft. Monmouth, NJ area every week, but never went through philly. I always went across the I-295 bridge and onto the Jersy tpk. Up to I-195 and over to Ft. Monmouth. Maybe I should drive into Philadelphia one of these days. According to my road atlas it is city all the way from Wilmington to Trenton?

Stir, I've never been on the Michigan Peninsula. Maybe I should swing by there on the way to Quinn's.
Come on up to Michigan for a visit Robbie! It would be an honor to have you!

Actually Happy loves the Snow. It's me that tries to stay away from it. When I got the new hip and was advised to give up downhill skiing, I decided to give up snow.
Yeh, He likes to do his prancing raindeer imitation in the snow.
My dogs loved snow, too, Robbie! We moved from Atlanta to SE Michigan for 5 1/2 years (6 winters) & they LOVED it! (silly dogs ;-p)
It is amazing how pictures sometimes turn out. If I had been trying to get that shot.....Never in a million tries.
