 Bitchin' Nihonjin Kurisumasu sāfumyujikku!

Somebody's gotta do it.

Today, in Musical History, December 7th, 1967: Otis Redding records "The Dock Of The Bay" - most of it, anyway. He considered the song unfinished, and the whistling was just him placeholding until he was supposed to return from a few upcoming dates, to write and record more lyrics.

And that's the late Steve Cropper on guitar. Damn. I just realized that, except for Booker T, all of the MG's are gone now.

First new song in five years from Ms. Barnett.

(Warning: The video is not for the easily grossed-out.)

Cover Of The Day:

Huh. Steve Cropper again.

"Shake Your Moneymaker"; Not a single, itself, but the B of "Look On Yonder Wall", by Elmore James, released 12/61.

Dozens of covers of the song, but this one is by the Reverend Peyton & His Big Damn Band, from 2020, with Steve Cropper sitting in.

Today, in Musical History, December 8th, 1965: Mick Collins, Detroit underground musician and musical godfather, leader of the hardest-assed band in town, the Dirtbombs, b. Detroit, MI

Cover Of The Day:

"The Lonely Bull" (El Toro Solo):, #6 POp, 12/8/1962, by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass -

Cover by the Untouchables, from their 1985 album "Wild Child"
