This afternoon te President put boots-on-the-ground in both Kenya and Libya against Al Qaeda targets.  And that during a government shutdown.

What do you think about that?

Maybe that is the reason, Sec. Hagel has decided that essential means about 400,000 defense employees will come out of furlough which is about half of those that have been, at least in DC due to the shutdown.

Clearly, what we have here is a vision of military force as a precision tool to hurt people and break things to those that wish us harm.  And clearly, it has become obvious that since these are non-governmental military groups that operate without borders, so do we, operate without borders to protect ourselves, our allies and friends.

This has been a goal of those that operate and have access to military access for sometime.  Kennedy formed up such special units with the Rangers and their berets as being the tip of the spear against communism as to the guerrillas and insurgents that were popping up during the Cold War.  It also a recognition that war can come in more than one form, of which WWI and WWII will not be the way a war will be fought now or in the future.  And that nuclear annihilation can't and doesn't prevent death and destruction of those small, dedicated and fanatical, groups that can and will do harm.

What we have is the ability and need to have micro-wars to root out and destroy our new enemies while having fleets, air wings and armies to support these new troops and technologies while still retaining overwhelming force for those that represent conventional threats.

And yes, it is a Brave New World, again.

I thought we understood that before the neocons started nation building in Afghanistan and Iraq.  We did, but the real intention was to borrow until we were bankrupt and then claim we could not afford what the right like to call, the entitlements.  Which has nothing to do with borrowing money or the debt or the deficit.
