Hmm…

Lessee…

John Kerry wants to be Secretary of State.

Isn’t that the John Kerry who was on the “Super Committee” that failed to forge a deficit reduction deal not so long ago?

And he’s being rewarded for that failure?

I’m confused.

I thought the Republicans were out of power.

Mr. Obama…!

( I don’t forget this stuff)

your point being...? i believe it was the Super Committee that crafted the fiscal cliff...

politics is compromise....if you've noticed the last four years, there has been a chorus from the right refusing to even contemplate the idea of any compromise..and even the move to avert the so-called fiscal cliff has left republicans who voted for the deal being called 'rinos'...that is republican in name only and some of those people will be targeted by the right with being 'primaried', i.e. defeated from within their own party by candidates further to the right and more stringently opposed to compromise....now unless a person is a single child from a wealthy family, most of us know that everything in life can take some degree of compromise..whether it is going to a restaurant you don't particularly care for cause she likes their special dish or working saturdays so you get to work the rest of the week too instead of being unemployed..what we have had for four years is a republican party threatening to hold their breath til their face turns blue if they don't get their way...remember mcconnell bitching cause after the republicans refused one package, the democrats hadn't put forth the second....guess what / negotiating means you refuse and make a counter-offer...not just refuse and wait for the next one...

My point is…

John Kerry presented himself a few years ago, to the American people as a viable candidate to represent us as our President.

It was, of course, unsuccessful, and Mr. Kerry went back to the business of Congress.

He is now being tapped to be our next Secretary of State as Hilary Clinton prepares to vacate the position – arguably our most important governmental position, after the presidency.

When Obama created the “Super Committee”, I regarded it a bit, with tongue-in-cheek. That ambivalence soon gave way to concern and then to anger, as no progress was made as the deadline approached.

Just like any trial judge, anywhere in this country, I felt that these “super committee” folks should be sequestered until they provided a real, workable solution.

They weren’t.

They are our employees – Democrat or Republican - and they are granted enormous trust (and salaries!)  to perform our business.

Failure is not an option.

Don’t know about you – but if I don’t do my job – I lose it.

You commented that the Super Committee may have very well crafted the current Fiscal Cliff by their failure.

Yeah, could be.

At any rate, and if so, I don’t want John Kerry (or any of the others on that committee) being rewarded for their failure to the American people.

then please name a person you think is respected enough to assume the position of secretary of state, who can pass the confirmation process and who has the potential to do a good job in that office. after all obama floats the name of chuck hagel (a republican) for secretary of defense and republicans howl and some turn on him and decry hagel as a rino....(aren't these the same people who whine about liberals and political correctness?)

I don’t usually have a  preference , as it’s the president who will  make the best selection of the members of his team. However, of the most likely contenders at the time (early December), I would have preferred Susan Rice, but after Libya…

I think that Thomas Donilon could have passed the vetting and would do a good job, but it was unlikely that Obama would give him up.

We’ll see what kind of fuss the republicans kick up over Hagel.

Maybe Obama will make Kerry, the Secretary of Defense, Donilon, the Secretary of State, and Rice, the National Security Adviser (doesn’t need a confirmation for that).

I have to admit that I am unfamiliar with Chuck Hagel and am catching up today on the reasons for the republican resistance to him.

So far it seems to be about his hair…it’s really nice.

I suspect the major reason for the Republican resistance to Hagel is simply because Obama wants him.  The Reps would bitch if Obama selected Jesus Christ to the position.

I think you've got that exactly right!
